An accident occurred at 12:05 early Monday morning in Dent County on Highway 72 about three miles north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Chrysler Pacifica driven by 30-year old Joshua Sapaugh of St. James was traveling westbound on highway 72, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck an embankment. Sapaugh suffered serious injuries and was transported by Air Evac to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chrysler Pacifica sustained minor damage and was towed by Whitaker’s Towing.

On August 24th, Dent County Deputies conducted a traffic stop at 4th and Iron Streets.  As a result of the stop, Logan Hendrickson of Salem was arrested for driving while his license suspended and for a failure to appear warrant out of Phelps County. Hendrickson was transported to the Sheriff's Office and released after posting bond and given a court date. On Thursday, September 1st, deputies conducted a traffic stop at the car wash on Highway 32 West.  As a result of the stop, Tylor Land of Salem was arrested for driving while having his license suspended.  Land was transported to the Sheriff's Office and later released pending court appearance. On Monday, September 5th, Dent County Deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 19 and Dent County Road 3360.  As a result of the stop, Jackie Tucker of Salem was arrested for driving while have s suspended license. Tucker was transported to the Sheriff's Office and later released pending court appearance. On September 7th, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Grand Street near Walker Street. As a result of the stop, John Simmons IV and Ricky Woods Jr were arrested.  Simmons was arrested for driving while having a revoked license and Woods was arrested for driving without having a valid license. During the stop it was discovered by deputies that Simmons and Woods had switched seats once the deputies observed Simmons operating the vehicle before the stop. They were both released pending a court appearance.

An accident occurred on Friday, September 9th at 8:25 in the morning on I-44 about fifteen miles west of Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 2006 Jeep Wrangler driven by 48-year old Robert Kattich of Rolla, was traveling westbound on I-44 when he lost control on a rain slicked roadway. The Jeep traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned. Kattich suffered moderate injuries and was transported to the Fort Leonard Wood Hospital by Phelps County ambulance. Kattich was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Jeep Wrangler sustained moderate damage was towed by Jacks Towing.

 On Saturday, September 10th an accident occurred at 9:45 in the morning on Highway 19 about 2 miles south of Steelville in Crawford County. According to the highway patrol report, a 2008 Mercury Grand Marquis driven by Philip Westrup of Cherryville, was traveling north-bound when he attempted to pass on a curve. Westrup lost control, traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a fence. Westrup suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. The Mercury Grand Marquis sustained extensive damage. It was towed by Miles and Sons Towing of Steelville. Westrup was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident.

The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the courthouse for their regular meeting. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles was not in attendance so Dent County Clerk Angie Curley appointed District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell as the acting Presiding Commissioner. In the road report, Purcell stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4150, 4155, 5450, 6350 and 6490 while brush would be cut on county road 5360. Purcell went on to say two men would be hand patching some potholes on chip and seal county roads 2400 and 4180. Purcell wanted to ask the public to use caution if driving those roads this week. Purcell said Darrell Frits dropped off a petition with 14 names on it recommending the county establish a speed limit of 15 MPH on county road 5090 and the commission approved the request. In District 2, Commissioner Gary Larson said the roads last week did not get graded as the grader went done and needed to be serviced. He said materials would be added and grading done on Dent County Roads 2020 and 2025, while only grading would be done on county roads 3120 and 3130. Larson said men would also be patching pot holes on the chip and seal surfaces on Dent County Roads 2300 and 3260. Larson went on to say that some areas of Dent County received as much as four inches of rain last weekend and men are checking roads for washouts. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers will host Steelville this afternoon at 4:30 at the Armory Field at the Salem City Park. Salem goes into the game with a 7-1 record. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com.

The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers will be at Thayer to face the Lady Bobcats tonight starting at 6:00 with the JV contest followed by the varsity match.

Drew Lock tied a school-record with five touchdown passes as Missouri ran away with its home opener, defeating Eastern Michigan 61-21 Saturday night. Lock completed 24 of 37 pass attempts for 450 yards, just 30 yards shy of the school record. Johnathon Johnson caught five passes for 115 yards and a touchdown, and Emmanuel Hall had three catches for 90 yards. Missouri will host Georgia Saturday evening.

Kyle Hendricks took a no-hitter into the ninth inning before giving up Jeremy Hazelbaker's leadoff home run, and the Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 Monday night to close in on the NL Central crown. Ben Zobrist and Dexter Fowler homered for the Cubs. The Cards and Cubs play again tonight at 6:20 on KSMO Radio.

Chris Davis and Marcus Semien hit three-run homers, the Athletics matched a season high with 17 hits while drawing 10 walks, and Oakland trounced the Kansas City Royals 16-3 on Monday night. Royal’s starter Dillon Gee (6-8) was battered for five runs on five hits and four walks in 3 1/3 innings. The Royals and A's play again tonight.

Funeral services for Gloria Jean Harmon of Steelville, age 70, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 today.

Funeral services for Lois Jean “Jeannie” Lamar of Rolla, age 84, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Memorial Park Cemetery in St. Louis. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 7:00. Memorials are suggested to the Presbyterian Good Samaritan Fund. All arrangements are under the James and Ghar Mortuary in Rolla.

Graveside services for Maxine Dobbs Bowls of O’Fallon, Illinois, age 88, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery in Salem.
