The Dent County Commission met Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done and materials would be added to Dent County Road 6090, while a crew was replacing a 4-foot culvert on the chip and seal on county road 5013. District II Commissioner Gary Larson said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2380, 4280, 4260, 4010 and 3370. He added that 2 men were patching chip and seal on county road 2240 and they would be hauling gravel when the patching was finished if time allowed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles gave the sales tax report for the treasurer. He said sales tax continues to trend down with September’s receipts being $7,098.31 lower than September of 2014. Skiles went on to say that the year-to-date sales tax for general revenue is down $24,098.23 when compared to 2014, which is a 3.85% drop. He also noted that the law enforcement sales tax is down a comparable amount. In his report, Presiding Commissioners Skiles noted that he attended the Meramec Community Enhancement Board meeting on Tuesday. The Board has a home repair loan program and currently there are 14 homes in the program. They still have funds available and are looking for 5 more homes for the program. Most of the loans are for roofs, windows, HVAC, etc. and applicants must meet income requirements of being at or below 50% of the median income for the county the home is in. Anyone interested in obtaining more information should call MRPC at (573) 265-2993 and talk to Kelly Sink-Blair. In other business, Skiles noted the Commission had received the signed contract agreement from the City of Salem for tax collection. The contract covers 2015 through February 2019. The Commissioners signed the contracts and Skiles will get the contract to the County Collector and Treasurer for their signatures. Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley had finished reviewing and revising the contracts with Goldberg and Associates relative to designing a judicial center. The Commissioners voted 3-0 to sign the contracts and delayed any action on the rider until the County Clerk was back from her training. The commission will next meet Monday at 9:00 in the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
