An accident happened in Maries County on Friday evening at 6:27 on Highway 63 about 1 tenth of a mile south of Route A that took the life of a St. James man. According to the highway patrol report, 48-year old Brian Rippeto of St. James was driving his 2013 Harley Davidson Electra southbound when he attempted to overtake another vehicle. As he was going past the vehicle, the Electra traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a rock bluff before the Electra came to rest. The Maries County Sheriff Chris Heitman pronounced Rippeto dead at the scene at 7:22. The Harley Davidson was totaled and removed from the scene by C&C Towing of Rolla. The highway patrol was assisted by the Maries County Sheriff’s Department at the accident scene.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting on tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 7:00 PM. After approval of the agenda and during the hearing of persons, The Salem United Methodist Church would like to request the closure of Doss Road on Saturday, October 31st from 5:00 to 8:00 PM for “Trunk or Treat.” The Grace Community Church would like permission to block off 600 South Water Street on Sunday, September 20th from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM for a community event and on Saturday, October 31st from 4:00 to 9:00 PM for “Trunk or Treat.” Also during the hearing of persons, Randy League on behalf of the Midwest Blue Oval Club is requesting permission to close Iron Street, 4th Street and 5th Street around the Court House for the car show on Saturday, September 12th. Grover Whitley on behalf of Revival Tabernacle says the City needs to install a drain at the foot of Washington Street where it meets Franklin Avenue where the storm water comes over the sidewalk onto the lot of the church. The Board will then address bids that the City had requested for the purchase of a new medium duty truck and those bids will be presented to the Board. In unfinished business, Kimberly Kemnitzer, CEO of the Master’s Peace Clinic of Hope had requested at an earlier meeting, permission to hold a fundraiser and 5K Pumpkin Run on October 10th for about 4 to 5 hours at their location of 407 East Fourth Street and wanted a temporary closing of the street. The Board previously postponed any decision until she would be present. City Administrator Ray Walden will then update the Board on various items and projects around town, followed by Mayor J.J. Tune’s report. During the introduction and reading of bills and resolutions, Bill #3300, an ordinance required in order to meet the decision of the Board concerning overtime pay will be presented. Also Bill #3301 required in order to annex the Hedley property into the City limits, Bill #3302 an ordinance amending certain provision of the City of Salem Municipal Code to comply with Senate Bill #5 relating to penalties, court procedures and speeding violations and Bill #3303 an ordinance pertaining to public displays-exceptions for the fireworks display at the High School home football games will all be presented the Board for their approval. Mayor Tune will make an appointment to the Salem Planning & Zoning Commission replacing Mike Condray who has resigned. In new and miscellaneous business, the annual meeting of the LAGERS will be held October 29th and 30th in St. Louis. The City will be sending an employee delegate that is voted on by the employees and the Board needs to appoint an employer delegate to attend the meeting. WCA is requesting that the week of October 5th thru October 9th be set as the Fall Clean-Up week. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing contracts, litigation, personnel and real estate. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

Eli Floyd’s 39-yard touchdown run in the 2nd quarter proved to be the difference as the Salem Tigers held on for a 14-7 win over the Houston Tigers Friday night at Houston. Zak Eplin hit Cameron Howard on a 30-yard strike earlier in the quarter for the first score of the game. Houston scored on an interception return of 72-yards by Steve Logan on a deflected pass late in the 3rd quarter. Salem is now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the SCA. They will host Thayer Friday night.

The Salem Softball Tigers will be at Houston today for an SCA contest against the Tigers. The game time is set for 4:30. Salem enters the contest with a 2-2 record and 1-0 in the SCA.

Kentrell Brothers racked up 10 tackles on 24 of Missouri's first 26 defensive plays and then blocked a punt that led to a touchdown in Missouri's 34-3 win over Southeast Missouri State Saturday. Maty Mauk threw two TD passes in the first quarter and freshman backup Drew Lock threw a 78-yard touchdown pass to Tyler Hunt in the fourth for Missouri. Mauk was 12 of 22 for 181 yards with an interception and Lock was 6 of 8 for 138 yards. Missouri will be at Arkansas State next Saturday evening.

Dexter Fowler had a leadoff home run and two-run double in the first two innings as Lance Lynn was rocked for six runs in 2 1-3 innings and the Chicago Cubs shutout the Cardinals, 9-0. The Cards and Cubs play tonight on KSMO at 6:20.

Tommy Milone pitched seven effective innings and Eduardo Escobar reached base four times and drove in three runs as the Minnesota Twins beat the struggling Kansas City Royals 6-2 on Monday night. Kansas City plays the Minnesota Twins tonight at 7:10.

Funeral services for Dennis Phillip Stephenson of Rolla, age 75, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held today from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be at the Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Waynesville with full military honors. Memorials may be made to the VFW Post #2025.

Funeral services for John J. Davis of Excelsior Springs, Missouri, age 77, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from noon until service time on Wednesday. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.

Funeral services for Marie (Barton) Brooks of Salem, age 81, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 9:00 Wednesday evening. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral Services for Johnnie Marie Hemme, age 69, of St. James will be Thursday at 1:00. Visitation will be Thursday morning from 11:00 to service time. Interment will be in the Oak Forrest Cemetery.

Funeral services for Brian G. Rippeto of St. James, age 48, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be from Friday morning at 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Goshen Cemetery in Hartsburg, MO. Memorials may be made to the St. James Animal Shelter.
