The Dent County Commissioners met Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams was in to request a budget adjustment to the Land Tax Sale Budget due to unexpected increased revenue and expenses. The Commissioners approved the request and set the budget adjustment hearing for September 28th at 10:00 am. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that ditch work would be done on Dent County Roads 5100 and 5105, while grading would be done on county roads 5590, 6630 and 6520. Purcell went on to say that materials would be added to county road 5080, brush would be cut on county road 6070 and a man was replacing a hydraulic hose on grader #33. District II Road Supervisor Sam Gorman filled in for Commissioner Gary Larson who had a prior commitment and was not at the meeting. Gorman said that grading would be done on Dent County Road 2530 and brush would be cut on county roads 4480 and 4330. He added that potholes in chip and seal were being repaired on county road 2240. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reminded residents that the Courthouse would be closed Monday in observance of Labor Day and wishes everyone a safe holiday and hopes the Chamber of Commerce Rodeo has a great attendance. Skiles said that on Tuesday he attended the Meramec Community Enhancement Corporation meeting. He went on to say that he had received positive comments about the HVAC installed in the upstairs courtroom. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that she balanced with the Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams on all accounts and that bills were being reviewed and approved by the Commissioners. Sheriff’s department Special Investigator Wayne Becker was in to have the contract signed for the Cyber Crimes Grant. Due to the Labor Day Holiday on Monday, the next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 in the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

A search and rescue for 13-year old Johnathan Shay from St. James will be held Labor Day Monday, September 7th, starting at 8:00 A.M. from the command post at Scott's Lodge at the St. James City Park, in St. James. Shay has been missing since July 9th and has autism. Justice In the Name Of would like to extend an invitation to anyone to be active in helping in the search and rescue effort for Johnathan Shay. Justice In the Name Of has met with the Phelps County Sheriff and have connected with local people in the community and are working very closely with the family. They need volunteers on foot, back at the command post, plus donations of water, food, walkie talkies, and orange T-Shirts for everyone to wear. We chose the color orange because it is Johnathan Shay’s favorite color. They are asking for group leaders to step forward and a team conference call will be held before the event to go over search and rescue protocol. Those interested in Group Leadership of the search and rescue teams must make a point of contact with Justice In Name Of to establish the best tactical approach for covering locations.
