missourinetLOCAL NEWS:

Colonel J. Bret Johnson, superintendent of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, reminds all Missouri’s travelers to make safety the focal part of your Labor Day weekend. Col. Johnson strongly urges the use of seat belts when traveling in any kind of vehicle and life jackets when on Missouri lakes, rivers or streams. In 2015, a total of 10 people were killed and 508 injured in Missouri over the Labor Day holiday in 1,094 traffic crashes. That means one person was killed or injured every nine minutes. Of that total, troopers worked 348 traffic crashes that included 167 injuries and eight of the fatalities over the 2015 Labor Day holiday. Troopers arrested 121 people for driving while intoxicated during last year’s holiday weekend. The 2016 counting period for the Labor Day holiday will be from 6:00 Friday night and last through 11:59 Monday night, September 5th. The Highway Patrol will be participating in Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) over the Labor Day holiday weekend. All available officers will be patrolling Missouri’s roadways enforcing Missouri’s speed limit, seat belt, and alcohol laws, in addition to being available to assist motorists. Troopers throughout the state will participate in a special enforcement operation on Friday and again on Monday. This operation will include Interstates 29, 44, 55, and 70, and U.S. Highways 60 and 61. Troopers will be targeting all traffic violators, and be especially vigilant of aggressive driving violations. Please buckle up in your vehicle. If you witness criminal activity or experience an emergency—whether you're on a highway, call the Patrol's Emergency Report Line at 1 (800) 525-5555 or *55 on a cellular phone.

All Salem Tiger Football fans!!! Fleetwood Pyrotechnics, LLC, the pyrotechnic company who shoots the fireworks at the home football games in Salem, is asking for your cooperation in staying away from the taped off area during the games. As a safety precaution once they start loading their racks, they are the only ones allowed to be in the shoot site. Every game they tape off an area and have large yellow banners posted saying "Staging Area Keep Out," yet numerous people have crossed over their tape and ignored their signs and warnings. Fleetwood Pyrotechnics provides the fireworks on their own as a donation to the school on their dime and time. If people continue to come into the taped off area, they will have no choice but to stop shooting the fireworks. They simply CAN'T risk an injury to anyone. They have rules that must be followed or they may be at risk of losing their license. Nobody is allowed in the area so there is no reason to try to enter into the marked off area. Fleetwood Pyrotechnics LLC would appreciate your cooperation with us on this matter.
