The Dent County Sheriff’s Office released a couple of reports. On Wednesday, August 26th, at 2:00 in the afternoon, Dent County deputies received information that a female with an active warrant for her arrest was at Country Mart in the parking lot. Deputies arrived and observed the female subject, identified as 22-year old Mackenzie Bowen, of Salem backing out of a parking space. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle that Bowen was operating. Bowen was arrested for an active warrant for eight (8) counts of forgery. A passenger, identified as 19-year old Christian Howard, of Salem, was found to be in the possession of drug paraphernalia that field-tested positive for heroin. As a result of the items found, Howard was arrested. Howard was transported to the Dent County Jail and was incarcerated. Howard is currently being held on a $50,000 cash only bond. Bowen was transported to the Dent County Jail and was held on a $7,000 cash only bond. On Thursday, August 27th, at 1:42 in the afternoon, deputies conducted a traffic stop at the Mobil parking lot. The male subject, later identified as 29-year old Shawn Flood of Salem, had been seen operating a motor vehicle, but has had his Missouri driver's license revoked. As a result of the traffic stop, Flood was arrested. Flood was transported to the Dent County Jail and later released pending appearance in court.

The Dent County Commission met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5390, 5400 and 6670 while materials would be added to county road 6400. Purcell went on to say brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 6070, 6420 and 6435 while a four-foot culvert was going to be installed on county road 5013. District II Road Supervisor Sam Gorman filled in for Commissioner Gary Larson who had a prior commitment and was not at the meeting. Gorman said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2590, 4050 and 4370 while brush was going to be cut on county roads 5240, 6120 and 6123. Gorman went on to say that materials would be added to and grading done on Dent County Road 5240 while maintenance would be done on county trucks #65 and #70. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley stated she is looking for people who would be interested in becoming election judges. There will be four elections next year and she is looking for interested persons from both the Republican and Democrat parties. Those who would be interested in becoming an election judge must be a US Citizen and be a registered voter of the county. They would receive training and would be paid. If anyone is interested, they should contact the Dent County Clerk’s Office at 729-4144. At 10:00, the commission did not receive any bids on the two vehicles from the Dent County Sheriff’s Department. The commissioners elected to advertise the vehicles again in the Salem News for bid and those bids would be due by 10:00 on Thursday, September 17th. Wayne Martin from Cahill’s Construction came in to discuss their bid with the commission concerning the windows for the courthouse. It seems once the windows are measured and ordered, it will take six to eight weeks to get the windows from Quaker Windows. Cahill’s could not guarantee that the windows would be installed by October 23rd as indicated in the contract. The Commission changed the contract to read that installation needed to be done by November 16th before any penalties would be assessed. There is a one-year warranty on the labor. The commissioners then voted to approve the bid from Cahill’s Construction for $40,000. Quaker will be in Salem Wednesday to measure the windows. At the last meeting, the board approved the language and the details of the contract with Goldberg Group Architects for the new jail/justice center and sent it to the Prosecuting Attorney Andrew Curley for his review. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting will be open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their September meeting tonight at the fire station beginning at 6:00 PM. At the meeting, the Board will review financial reports and approve bills. There will be a calendar review as well as the monthly reimbursement report for August. The Board will then address any old or new business, hear reports on various items and they may vote to go into closed session to discuss personnel. The Board will then set their next meeting for Tuesday, October 6th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. The September meeting of the Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors is open to the public.
