State Representative of the 143rd District Jeff Pogue will hold a listening post in Salem on Friday, September 2nd at McDonalds in Salem from 3:00 to 4:00. If you have a problem with a state agency or need more information, the listening post is a great way to get your question or problem addressed. The listening post is open to anyone.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving traffic violations. On Tuesday, August 23rd at 1:54 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem female for driving while suspended and on an active arrest warrant from Dent County. She was issued a summons for driving while having her license suspended and she was released after paying all fines and cost on the arrest warrant. That afternoon at 3:59, an officer located a 46-year old Salem male who had an active arrest warrant from Jefferson County, in the 1100 block of East Missouri Highway 32. He was taken into custody on the warrant and was incarcerated pending a court appearance. That night at 7:20, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of a 30-year old male of Cuba, Missouri for driving while having his license suspended and possession of heroin and a 29-year old female also of Cuba, Missouri for possession of heroin. The two suspects were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Later that night at 11:20, an officer located a 30-year old Salem male in the 700 block of South Washington who had an active arrest warrant from Phelps County, Missouri. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Wednesday, August 24th at 10:00 in the morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of East Hawkins to assist the Division of Family Services on an investigation regarding a juvenile. Upon entering the fenced premises, a dog within the confines charged at the officer and family services worker. The officer used his service weapon, fired one round and struck the dog which stopped the dog's advance. The dog was transported to the veterinary clinic where he was treated and released to the owner. The dog is expected to make a full recovery. That night at 8:04, an officer was dispatched to Sullivan, Missouri to transport a 26-year old Salem male to the Dent County Jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. On Thursday, August 25th at 12:30 in the afternoon, an officer located a 23-year old Salem male in the 100 block of South Washington who had an active arrest warrant from Phelps County.  He was taken into custody on the warrant and was incarcerated pending extradition. The University of Missouri Extension will be hosting a Management Intensive Grazing School this September 28th through the 30th at the MU Hugo Wurdack Research Center near Cook Station. The three-day program will include guest speakers covering the topics of grazing system layout and design, watering systems, fence systems, soil fertility, livestock nutrition, and forage growth and quality. They will include Melinda Barch, a district conservationist; Brent Booker, the Wurdack Farm Manager; Dent County Extension Livestock Specialist Ted Cunningham; MU Extension Ag Business Specialist Rachel Hopkins; MU Extension Agronomy Specialist Matt Herring and Mark Kennedy, a grassland consultant from the Missouri Forage and Grassland Council. Additionally, extensive farm tours will be included to allow participants to receive training on grazing system utilization. The cost of the three-day school is $135 per person or $215 per farm couple. This fee includes the cost of meals, resource books and other handout materials pertinent to the course. Space is limited for this program, and registration along with full payment is required by September 22nd. The Salem Community Center @ The Armory will be hosting a Career Fair for the Echo Bluff State Park Thursday from 10:00 in the morning until 3:00 in the afternoon at 1200 West Rolla Road in Salem. They are looking for cooks, housekeepers, servers and a housekeeping supervisor. Everyone is invited out this Labor Day weekend to The Commons on Highway 72 as the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2016 MRCA/URA semi-pro rodeo, produced by Outlaw Rodeo Productions this Friday and Saturday night beginning at 7:30. There will be a number of rodeo events including bareback riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding. For kids ages 10 and under there will be a kids boot toss and calf scramble each night, sponsored by Doe Run. The weather will be great and it will be lots of fun for the whole family plus food vendors will be on the grounds. Get your advance tickets now as they are available at the banks in Salem. Tickets are available at US Bank, both Town & Country Bank Salem locations, Progressive Ozark Bank, both Bank of Salem locations, Riverways Federal Credit Union, and the Salem Area Chamber Office. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for children ages 5-11. At the gate, tickets will be $10 for adults and $5 for children. The Salem Lady Volleyball Tigers hosted the Eminence Lady Red Wings and lost the match in two straight games, 10-25 and 19-25. The JV also lost, but pushed the Lady Red Wings losing the first game 24-26 and the second game, 21-25. The Lady Tigers drop to 1-4 on the year and they will be at Licking Thursday night at 6:00.

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers opened their SCA schedule in Ava with a 12-5 win over the Lady Bears. With the score tied 5-5 after three innings, Salem dominated the rest of the way. Camryn Pryor went 3-4 with 2 RBI while Trista Heavin also went 3-4 with an RBI. Payton Curley went 3-5 and had 2 RBI for the Lady Tigers who are now 6-1 on the year and 1-0 in the SCA. The Lady Tigers are off until next Tuesday when they face Houston.

Zach Duke stranded the bases loaded with a strikeout in the 10th inning after Randal Grichuk hit an RBI single in the top half of the inning, lifting the St. Louis Cardinals over the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 on Tuesday night. Seung Hwan Oh (4-2) pitched out of a jam in the ninth to get the win. Jedd Gyorko hit another homer for the Cardinals. St. Louis' Adam Wainwright and Milwaukee's Wily Peralta had dueled for seven innings, leaving a 1-1 game for the bullpens. The Cards and Brewers will play again tonight at 6:15 on KSMO Radio.

Jacoby Ellsbury drove in the go-ahead run with two outs in the 10th inning, and the New York Yankees hung tough after blowing a four-run lead for a 5-4 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday night. Dellin Betances (3-4) tossed two scoreless innings of relief for New York before Ben Heller loaded the bases with one out in the 10th. Chasen Shreve entered the game and calmly struck out Kendrys Morales and got Salvador Perez to fly out, picking up his first career major league save. The two teams play again tonight.

The City of Salem Youth Flag Football will have registrations now through Friday, September 2nd at the City Administration Building, located at 400 North Iron during regular business hours. All boy and girls in grades 1st through 6th can signup and the cost is $20 per child. Games will be held every Saturday starting September 24th. Funeral services for Andrea "Andy” Kronable Carrell of St. James, age 44, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Greentree Christian Church. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday evening at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Memorials may be made to the American Liver Association.

Funeral services for Jennie Pauline Smith of Steelville, age 88, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time Friday. Interment will be in the Berryman Cemetery.
