On Wednesday, August 26th, deputies with the Dent County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to the 4000 block of East Highway 32 for a report of shots fired and a male observed running from the area where the shots were fired holding his leg as he ran. Upon arrival, deputies were directed to the 200 block of Dent County Road 4243. Once Deputies arrived at the incident location, contact was made with a 21-year old female. She told deputies that her grandfather had shot at her boyfriend and her boyfriend had ran away. Her grandfather was identified as 74-year old Willard A. Stotler of Salem. Deputies asked her where Stotler was located. She directed the deputies to a shop located on the north side of the property. The deputies attempted to make contact with Stotler and a short standoff occurred. After a few minutes of intense negotiations, Stotler was taken into custody after fighting with deputies and a trooper with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. A handgun was located where Stotler had been sitting when the stand off occurred. The victim was found approximately one mile from the incident location on foot with no injuries. The investigation revealed that Stotler had threatened to kill the victim and shot at the victim while he was fleeing. Stotler was transported to the Dent County Jail for processing where he was charged with three felony counts stemming from this incident. The charges are assault in the 1st degree; unlawful use of a weapon and assault in the 2nd degree on a law enforcement officer. His bond is set at $100,000 cash only. The above information is just an accusation, and is not evidence of guilt.
