An accident occurred in Texas County Saturday night at 9:44 on Highway 63 about five miles north of Licking that took the life of an Edgar Springs man. According to the highway patrol report, a 1993 Yamaha Motorcycle, driven by 21-year old Thomas D. Black of Edgar Springs, turned into the path of a 2003 Dodge Ram, driven by 38-year old Travis S. Cook of Licking. Black was pronounced deceased at the scene by Texas County Coroner Thomas Whittaker. According to the report, Black and Cook were both wearing the appropriate safety devices and Cook suffered no injuries. The Yamaha was totaled, while the Dodge Ram had extensive damage. Jay’s Automotive removed both vehicles from the scene.

An accident occurred at 10:10 Thursday morning in Maries County on Route H and county road 428 just about ten miles north of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado pickup driven by 52-year old Cecil Nelson of Rolla was traveling northbound, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a highway sign. Nelson suffered moderate injuries and was transported by the St. James ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Silverado sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by Ron Dishman Towing.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Thursday, August 6th at 11:40 AM, an officer was detailed to Casey's General Store in reference to a dispute between two females. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 40-year old Salem female for possession of a controlled substance. She was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Friday, August 7th at 7:23 in the evening, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of Glendale in reference to a suspicious subject. That investigation led to the arrest of a 29-year old Salem male on an active arrest warrant from Phelps County. He was incarcerated pending extradition. On Saturday morning, August 8th at 5:08, an officer was dispatched to the 1500 block of South Highway 19 in reference to a missing juvenile. The investigation of the report revealed a juvenile male had left a residence planning to run away. The 15-year old male juvenile of Salem was located and transported to a juvenile facility. The report was forwarded to the Juvenile Office. On Sunday, August 9th at 10:35 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 100 block of South Tower in reference to an intoxicated male causing a disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 24-year old male of Newburg for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Monday, August 10th at 12:03 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a forgery. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown stole a check and forged it for the amount of $215.45. Later that night at 11:04, an officer was sent to a residence in the 400 block of East Rolla in reference to a domestic assault. That investigation revealed a 36-year old Salem male had assaulted a 14-year old male juvenile and a 60-year old female both of Salem. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect for 2nd degree domestic assault, violation of an order of protection, driving while being intoxicated, resisting arrest and numerous traffic infractions. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Tuesday morning, August 11th at 7:55, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 600 block of North Henderson in reference to damage to private property. The investigation of the report revealed someone unknown punctured the tire valued at $100.00 on a maroon 2005 Dodge Neon. Middle School Football Coach Anderson will be holding a meeting this afternoon in the boys football locker room beginning at 4:00 PM for boys interested in playing football. A completed physical is required.

Kolten Wong’s two errors helped the Miami Marlins defeat the St. Louis Cardinals Sunday, 6-4 and salvage the final game of the series. Wong’s first error opened up a four-run fifth inning for Miami. Carlos Martinez took the hard luck loss and is 12-5 on the year. Jason Heyward hit two home runs and Stephen Piscotty hit his first major league blast in the loss. The Cards face the San Francisco Giants for a three game series starting tonight starting at 6:10 with the pre-game show on KSMO Radio.

Kendrys Morales had an RBI single with two outs in the 10th inning to lift the Kansas City Royals to a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Sunday night. Ben Zobrist singled with one out in the 10th, the Royals' first hit since Eric Hosmer's RBI single in the first inning. After Hosmer walked, Morales singled against Trevor Gott (2-1) as Kansas City improved to 7-2 in extra-inning games. Kelvin Herrera (4-2) pitched a perfect 10th to pick up the victory. The Royals are off tonight before starting a series with the Cinncinatti Reds on Tuesday.

The St. Louis Rams lost 18-3 to the Oakland Raiders Friday night in the teams first preseason game. The Rams will play next Sunday night against Tennessee.

Chase Daniel threw for three touchdowns to lead the Kansas City Chiefs to a 34-19 win over Arizona. The Chiefs will face Seattle Friday night.

Funeral services for Lela Fae Babb of Salem, age 91, will be today at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 12:00 noon until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Funeral services for Leah H. Pagel of Rolla, age 86, will be held Tuesday at 1:30 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Southard Cemetery in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the Phelps County CASA Organization.

Funeral services for Thomas D. Black of Edgar Springs, age 21, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Boone Creek Cemetery in Licking.

A Celebration of Life for Eva Lavera Vaughan of Salem, age 92, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Salem Church of Christ. Memorials may be made to Horizon Academy or Master’s Peace Clinic of Hope. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Beverly Kay Grouns of St. James, age 50, will be held Friday at 12:00 at the Calvary Apostolic Church in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
