The Dent County Commission met Monday morning for their regular meeting at the courthouse. In the road report, both districts reported they received as much as three inches of rain in some areas but have had no reports of extensive damage. Both district commissioners said crews would be out checking roads and cleaning out culverts. District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said materials were being added and brush was being cut on Dent County Road 5520. He also said a culvert was going to be installed today on county road 6400. He stated he would be attending a South Central Missouri Community Action Agency meeting today. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said materials would be added to Dent County Road 4030 with some back grading being done. He also said brush would be cut on county road 3220. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said the county received a letter from J. Kent Lowery, the attorney for the Prosecuting Attorney and Circuit Attorney Retirement System, and from the calculations of the actuaries, the fund did not perform as expected through June 2015. That means the contribution the county must put in the fund this year goes from $7,792 per year up to $11,628 per year which is a 50% increase over the previous year. This increase goes into effect this September. Skiles reported Prosecuting Attorneys do not contribute any of their own money in this fund as it is totally paid by the county. He also said the only way to stop this waste of taxpayer funds is when people start complaining to their legislators. He said at the MRPC meeting last Thursday, they expressed their concern over the prosecuting attorney’s salaries and retirement, and they agreed to add this to the top of their list of state priorities to be brought to the legislature. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said she would be attending the South Central County Clerks meeting in Wright County on Friday. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
