The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said he received various reports of rain totaling around 4.25 inches or more in numerous areas south of Salem to the county line. Dent County Road 5080 had a tree fall down over it that is being removed. Purcell said there were numerous washouts that have been reported including Dent County Roads 5083, 5510, 6230 and 6303. Purcell said that county road 6300 which is chip and sealed had a washout across it. Purcell said workers would be out checking bridges for debris and where pipes are clogged. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said his crews were out checking roads for washouts and downed limbs and would do patching where needed. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported the tax rate hearing would be held on Thursday, August 20th starting at 10:00 at the commissioners office to establish the tax rates for the General Revenue Fund, Road and Bridge Department, Senate Bill 40 Fund and the Senior Citizens Service Fund. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams brought in the sales tax figures from funds received in August to the commission. Williams said the county received $54,327.17 for General Revenue this year compared to $52,896.68 in 2014 for the month of August. For the first eight months collections of 2015, the county has collected $16,981.92 less than for the same eight months in 2014. That is about a 3.14% decrease from the previous year. Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock did say that there are still about 20 properties that could end up on the courthouse steps for the tax sale that is scheduled for August 24th. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving fraudulent use of a credit card, a traffic violation, assault and an intoxicated subject lying in the road. On Friday, July 31st at 6:45 pm, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to fraudulent use of a credit card. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown stole a credit card and used it on four occasions totaling $714.36. On Saturday, August 1st at 1:05 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 36-year old Salem female for driving while being intoxicated and driving while having her license revoked. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that same day at 4:45 pm, an officer was detailed to the Treatment Center located at 203 North Grand in reference to an assault. That investigation revealed a 32-year old female of Jefferson City had assaulted a 38-year old female of Springfield. Further investigation led to the arrest of the female who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Sunday, August 2nd at 11:38 pm, an officer was detailed to Rolla and Henderson in reference to an intoxicated subject lying in the road. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem male for minor in possession of intoxicants and the detention of a 15-year old male juvenile of Salem, for minor in possession of intoxicants. The 18-year old male was transferred to the Salem Hospital for treatment due to his level of intoxication and will be issued a summons to appear in court at a later date. The juvenile suspect was released to his parents and the report will be forwarded to the Juvenile Office. Anyone with any information regarding the fraudulent use of a credit card report is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Current River State Park, located north of Eminence off Highway 19, will be hosting two Discover Nature Fishing Events on Saturdays in August. The first Discover Nature Fishing Event will take place on Saturday, August 15th from 9:30 to 11:30 am. This event will consist of one hour of instruction titled Lesson 1 that will cover things such as equipment, casting and proper fish handling. Lesson 2 will show you how to tie a knot and bait a hook, and both lessons will then be followed by one hour of fishing. Participants are limited to anglers ages 7 - 15 and families with children. There is no fee for this program and fishing equipment, instructors and bait are provided. Reservations must be made for the event by calling (417) 256-7161. Adults must accompany their child at all times.

Everyone is invited out as the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce is hosting the 2015 MRCA/URA semi-pro rodeo, produced by Outlaw Rodeo Productions on Saturday, September 5th and Sunday, September 6th beginning at 7:30 pm nightly at the Commons on Highway 72 in Salem. Rodeo events will include: bareback riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, saddle bronc riding, steer wrestling, team roping, barrel racing and bull riding. For kids ages 10 and under there will be a kids boot toss and calf scramble each night, sponsored by Doe Run. Discounted advance tickets are on sale now and available at Town & Country Bank (both locations), Bank of Salem (both locations), Riverway Federal Credit Union, Progressive Ozark Bank and US Bank in Salem. The St. Louis Cardinals had the day off and will be hostring the Pittsburgh Pirates in a key three game set starting tonight at Busch Stadium. The pre-game show starts at 6:20 with the game to follow at 7:15. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio. The Cardinals lead Pittsburgh by 5 games going into the contest. Jeff Locke will go for the Pirates against Carlos Martinez of the Cardinals.

Johnny Cueto threw a four-hitter in his home debut as the Royals beat the Detroit Tigers 4-0 on Monday night at Kaufmann Stadium. Cueto (1-1) did not allow a runner past second base, struck out eight and walked none. It was his sixth career shutout and second this season. Lorenzo Cain drove in two runs and Kendrys Morales drove in the other run for KC who increased their lead in the AL Central to 12 games. Ben Zobrist went 3-for-3 for the Royals with a walk. The Royals and Tigers play again tonight. On the mound for detroit will be Anibal Sanchez while the Royals will counter with Yordano Ventura.

A Celebration of Christian Burial for Elaine Edwards, age 85, of St. Peters, formerly of Steelville, will be this morning at 10:00 at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Steelville. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Memorials may be made to the Foundation Fighting Blindness.

Graveside services for Doris Jo Rivera of Salem, age 70, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Sidney Carl Byington of Rolla, age 76, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery.
