Registration will be held for new students to the area and those that have moved within the district will be held today, August 10th and tomorrow, August 11th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM for the William Lynch Elementary and the Upper Elementary schools. The 88th Annual Dent County Fall Festival, with the theme “Honoring Our Veterans” this year, and will be going on from Thursday, August 11th through Saturday, August 13th at the Commons in Salem. Today from 1:00 to 7:00 exhibit check-in will be held for local gardeners, artist and cooks, so they can show off their talents with an array of items. Veterans and their families are encouraged to bring memorabilia for a display during the Home & Garden Show in the Durham building. Our local VFW will be selling food in the large cook shack Thursday, Friday and Saturday so be sure and stop by and make sure you thank them for their service. Thursday, August 11th is “Buddy Night” from 5:00 to 10:00, as wrist bands will be $15 each and if you bring a friend, it will be buy one, get one free, with kids games from 5:00 7:00 and Crazy Karaoke will be from 6:00 to 9:30. On Friday, August 12th the Fun Dog Show for all breeds of dogs will start with check-in at 8:30 in the morning in the barn and the show will start at 9:00. The 399th Army Band from Fort Leonard Wood will be performing from 6:00 to 10:00 Friday evening. On Saturday, August 13th kids games will be from noon to 2:00, Roy Stevenson and the Together Again Band will perform from 6:00 to 10:00 and the Demolition Derby will start at 7:00 with inspections from 3:00 to 5:30. The cost for the Demo Derby is $10 for adults and $5 for kids 10 an under. There will be something for everyone and all are invited to come out and enjoy the 88th Annual Dent County Fall Festival at the Commons in Salem.

An accident occurred at 3:54 Monday afternoon in Crawford County on Highway 8 about seven miles east of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by Danielle Eaton of Steelville was traveling westbound on highway 8 and traveled off the right side of the roadway. The Chevrolet Trailblazer returned to the roadway and crossed the centerline before overturning and traveling off the left side of the roadway and striking a tree. Eaton suffered moderate injuries and was transported by EMS to Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Trailblazer was totaled and removed from the scene by Miles Towing of Steelville.

On Tuesday, August 9th an accident occurred at 11:35 in the morning in Phelps County on the north outer road about a half mile east of Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Dodge Neon driven by 18-year old Ede Sayer of St. James was traveling westbound. The Dodge Neon traveled off the right side of the roadway. Sayer then overcorrected and traveled off the left side of the roadway where the Dodge Neon struck an embankment and a sign and then overturned. Sayer suffered minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge Neon was totaled and removed by C&C Towing.

The Salem Community Center @ the Armory, located at 1200 West Rolla Road in Salem, will be hosting an Elder Law Seminar on Tuesday, August 16th beginning at 5:00 PM called “Plan While You Can!” This seminar is FREE to anyone who would like to attend and no registration is needed. Experience Works is looking to hire individuals 55 and older in Dent County through their Senior Community Service Employment Program. If you are unemployed; have low-income, are eligible to work in the United States and are 55 years of age or older, then Experience Works is looking for you. When an older worker signs up with Experience Works, the program places them with a non-profit or public partner for on-the job training and experience. The workers earn minimum wage, paid by Experience Works through a grant from the federal government, while developing new skills in areas ranging from data entry to custodial work. The St. Louis Cardinals announced prior to Tuesday nights game that they have purchased the contract of rookie right-handed pitcher Alex Reyes from Memphis (AAA) and placed right-handed pitcher Michael Wacha (right shoulder inflammation) on the 15-day disabled list.

Adam Duvall drove in two runs and Tyler Holt's double drove in the game-winning run as the Cincinnati Reds beat the St. Louis Cardinals 7-4 on Tuesday night. Duvall's two-run single in the third broke a career high 0-for-18 skid and gave the Reds a 2-1 lead. The Cardinals finish up their three-game set with the Cincinnati Reds tonight at 6:15. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Todd Frazier hit a three-run homer in the 10th inning and Justin Morneau had four hits to lift the Chicago White Sox over the Kansas City Royals 7-5 on Tuesday night. David Robertson blew a save in the ninth when Alcides Escobar's  single scored pinch-runner Jarrod Dyson. The Royals play the White Sox tonight at 7:15.

Funeral services for 84 year-old Lucille Scherill Stammers of St. James will be Thursday at 2:00 at the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of services. Memorials are suggested to the St. James Athletic Department.

Funeral services for Sharon Ann Smith of Fenton, formerly of Sullivan, age 61, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of services.
