The Dent County Commission held their regular meeting Monday morning at the Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams came in to inform the Commission that the general revenue sales tax for August 2016 came in at $58,701.64, compared to $54,327.17 for August of 2015. She said that year to date the total is up $20,041.05 which comes to a 3.8241% increase. The Road and Bridge Department sales tax came in at $27,567.95 for August 2016 while the year to date total is at $249,749.16. In the road reports, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5630, 5670, 6410, 6420, 6070, 6080 and 6083. He went on to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5550, while material would be added to county road 6580 as well as a driveway culvert would also be installed. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson was not in attendance due to a prior commitment and Supervisor Sam Gorman filled in. Gorman reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3220 and 4310, while material would be added and grading would be done on county road 4040. He said that work would be done on tractor #4. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles stated that he attended the County Commissioner Association of Missouri Board of Directors meeting last Wednesday through Friday in Springfield. He stated plans for their Commissioner training for 2017 were addressed and that they also discussed several key issues of legislation, one being the full time prosecutor’s salary across Missouri. He stated that he would be attending the Salem Area Community Betterment Association meeting Monday afternoon. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that there was a really good voter turnout last week of 43.38%. She went on to say that there were still a lot of address issues at the polls. She said that she balanced with the Dent County Treasurer on all accounts for July and she also balanced with the Dent County Collector and Dent County Assessor on monthly collections, abatements and add-ons. Curley stated that the Dent County Commission would conduct a public tax rate hearing on Monday, August 22nd at 10:00 AM for the General Revenue Fund, the Road and Bridge Fund, the Senate Bill 40 Fund and the Senior Citizen Service Fund. Steve Davis with Shive-Hattery Architecture Engineering came in to discuss their proposal to move forward with a new jail/justice center. They have a revised fee proposal of $40,000 for Phase I, II and III. The Commission will look it over and discuss later. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving trespassing, burglary, theft, traffic violation and property damage. On Sunday, July 24th at 10:24 PM, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of East Fourth in reference to trespassing. The report revealed a 41-year old Salem female entered a residence without permission.  Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Sunday, July 31st at 12:21 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 100 block of South Henderson in reference to a burglary. The report revealed someone unknown entered a residence and took a tool box with tools, ammunition and a pellet rifle. Later that same morning at 8:34, an officer responded to a residence in the 200 block of South Park in reference to a burglary. The report revealed someone unknown cut a lock valued $20.00, off of a storage shed but nothing was found missing from inside. On Monday, August 1st at 2:56 PM, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The report revealed someone unknown took a Murray push mower valued $144.00 from the yard of a residence in the 500 block of East Roosevelt. Later that day at 8:16 PM, an officer was detailed to a traffic crash at Franklin and Pershing. Investigation of the crash report led to the arrest of a 57-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated and leaving the scene of an accident. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. That same night at 9:56, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an assault that occurred at a residence in the 100 block of South Henderson. Investigation of the report revealed a 26-year old Salem male had assaulted a 25-year old Salem female.  Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect for first degree domestic assault. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Tuesday, August 2nd at 6:37 PM, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of a 19-year old Salem female for possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia and minor in possession of intoxicants. She was issued summonses to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. A 30-year old Salem male was also arrested for supplying intoxicants to a minor, issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Wednesday, August 3rd at 8:22 AM, an officer was dispatched to the Salem High School in reference to property damage. The report revealed someone had driven a vehicle on the practice football field causing ruts that will cost approximately $250.00 to repair. An accident occurred Saturday evening at 7:00 in Phelps County on Highway K four miles west of Highway 63. According to the Highway Patrol Report a 2004 Ford Ranger, driven by 30 year-old Robert E. Luncsford of Edgar Springs, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned. The report stated that Luncsford was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident and sustained moderate injuries. He was transported by EMS to Phelps County Regional Medical Center. The Ford sustained extensive damage and was towed from the scene by C & C Towing of Rolla.

Yadier Molina started and ended a five-run rally in the ninth inning as the St. Louis Cardinals stunned the Cincinnati Reds 5-4 on Monday night. Molina singled to start the inning and was hit by a pitch from Ross Ohlendorf with the bases loaded to drive home the winning run. Matt Carpenter drove in two runs with a single and Brandon Moss tied it when he walked with the bases loaded. The comeback erased what had been a night of offensive futility for St. Louis through the first eight innings, as the Cardinals entered the last inning 0 for 11 with runners in scoring position. Seth Maness (2-2) pitched a perfect ninth to earn the win. The St. Louis Cardinals will play the Cincinnati Reds tonight at 7:15. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Royals had Monday off. Kansas City will start a three-game set with the Chicago White Sox tonight at 7:15.

Funeral services for 84 year-old Lucille Scherill Stammers of St. James will be Thursday at 2:00 at the St. James Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of services. Memorials are suggested to the St. James Athletic Department.
