The Dent County Fire Protection District held their August meeting Tuesday evening at the fire station. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the July meeting, the Board reviewed and approved bills, and then set a tax levy hearing for Tuesday, August 25th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. The monthly reimbursement report presented showed a total of 17 calls for July that included: three calls for structure fires, one call for a brush fire, one call for a landing zone, four calls for first responders, three calls for vehicle accidents, one call for mutual aid, one call for haz-mat, one call for a fire alarm, one call for a meeting and one training call. Total calls for the year are 168. In old business, Fire Chief Brad Nash presented a revised contract for the Fire 1 & 2 programs that will start this month and the revised contract was approved. In new business, the generator needs repaired, but the fact that it is now 17 years old, with no parts available, if parts are found could be about half the cost of a new one. Chief Nash presented prices for 2 new generators. One was a 20KW for $4,827.72 and the other was a 22KW for $5,052.68. The Board approved the purchase of the 22KW for $5,052.68. In reports, Nash presented a revised application form for hiring personnel for the District. After a Board review, the Board approved the revised application form. The Board then set their next regular meeting for Tuesday, September 1st at the fire station beginning at 6:00 pm. The meeting was then adjourned.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving an intoxicated male, a traffic violation and domestic assault. On Wednesday, July 22nd at 3:25 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a cell phone valued $600.00 from a location and time unknown to the victim. That same afternoon at 4:30 pm, an officer located a 43-year old Salem male in the 100 block of East Fifth who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. At 5:23 pm that same day, an officer located a 44-year old Salem male in the 200 block of South Warfel who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and later released after paying fines and court cost. That evening at 6:38, an officer located a 44-year old Salem male in the 1000 block of South Missouri Highway 19 who had an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Thursday, July 23rd at 1:32 in the early morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of South Jackson in reference to an intoxicated male causing a disturbance. Investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 45-year old Salem male for trespassing. He was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. That night at 8:52, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. Investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 29-year old male of Bunker for possession of heroin and possession of a controlled substance. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Later that same night at 9:43, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 100 block of North Park in reference to a domestic assault. Investigation of the report revealed a 31-year old Salem male had assaulted a 22-year old Salem female. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released.  

The Drug Enforcement Agency, DEA has decided to implement the "Drug Take Back" program again. On Saturday, September 26th the Salem Police Department will be participating in the drug take back program from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Salem Police Department at 500 North Jackson Street. The Dent County Sheriff's Department has received a medication disposal box. This allows the public to stop by anytime to drop off any unused medication. The disposal box gives the community the opportunity to dispose of medication at any time without needing to wait. This will get the medication out of your homes when it is not needed. Please do not drop any biohazard materials or syringes. The box is located in the lobby at the Dent County Sheriff's Office at 112 East 5th Street and is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

An accident occurred at 11:05 Monday morning in Iron County on Highway 49 about three miles south of Viburnum. According to the Highway patrol report, a 2003 Kenworth Dump Truck driven by 56-year old Douglas Decker of Viburnum was traveling southbound on Highway 49, failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway, overcorrected and overturned. Decker suffered moderate injuries and was taken by EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital in Salem. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dump Truck was totaled and removed from the scene by Abney’s Towing.

Matt Carpenter tied it with a solo homer in the eighth, and Randal Grichuk connected in the 13th inning, rallying the St. Louis Cardinals to a 4-3 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Randal Grichuk was moved up to second in the Cardinals' struggling batting order. He doubled home a run in the sixth inning and hit his 15th homer in the 13th. The Cardinals play the Reds today at 11:35 on KSMO Radio.

Matt Boyd pitched seven strong innings in his Tigers debut and Anthony Gose and Ian Kinsler hit key triples as Detroit beat the Kansas City Royals 2-1. Kansas City got its own RBI triple in the fourth, this one off the bat of Kendrys Morales. It was his first triple since 2012. The Royals play Detroit at 12:08 today. at 6:08.

Funeral services for Allan Ray Dicus, age 56, of Wesco will be Friday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be today from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Graveside services for Joyce Marie Look, age 78, of Rolla will be Friday at 3:00 at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Crawford County. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Pearl Major Pryor of Salem, age 96, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Love Park/Back Pack Program.

Memorial services for Robert Haley of St. James, age 85, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery Pavilion. Visitation will be from 11:30 until 12:30 Saturday at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Memorial services for Reba Cunningham of Salem, age 53, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Round Pond Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Round Pond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for final expenses. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
