The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6497, 6493, 6210 and 6320, while materials would be added to and grading done on county road 6505. He went on to say that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6400 and that a man was going to get a load of oil for chip and seal repair. Purcell encouraged motorists to be cautious today on Dent County Road 6240, commonly referred to as Gladden West, as chip and seal repair is planned. District II Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2110, 5300, 6160 and 6140, while brush will be cut on county roads 3040 and 4280. Larson went on to say that materials would be hauled to county road 5300 and that a man would be screening brown rock at the road and bridge department. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reminded citizens of the pre-application grant workshop this morning for the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District Waste Reduction and Re-cycling Grants. The workshop will be at the MRPC offices in St. James from 10:00 am to 12:00 noon. More information is available by calling Tammy or Jill at (573) 265-2993. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said Dent County assessed value for 2015 is $157,318,324, which is up from the 2014 figure of $155,034,382. In other news, Skiles noted that the Commission would have to make a budget adjustment due to the $1,337 increase in the prosecutors salary, which is tied by statute to the increase in state judges salaries, which in turn is tied to increases in federal judges salaries. Ron and Carol Williams were in to discuss washouts on the Old Millcreek Bridge at Cedar Grove. Since the area is in Shannon County, Commissioner Purcell said that he would contact the northern district Commissioner. The Dent County Sheriff’s department was in to present inmate food provider bids. Nineteen vendors were notified and two bids were received. The KFC/Taco Bell bid was for $4.50 per meal and the bid from Annie’s Grill was for $5.29. The Commissioners voted 3-0 to accept the KFC/Taco Bell bid. Jack Todd of Victor Furnace was in to discuss the cooling issues in the Courthouse courtroom. Jack is to put some figures together and report back to the Commissioners. The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 in the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving theft, a narcotics investigation, and a disturbance. On Monday, July 20th at 4:26 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Salem High School in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took $200.00 from a truck parked in the school parking lot. Later that same afternoon at 5:13, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 500 block of South Warfel in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that someone unknown entered a residence by force and took a water tank valued at $200.00 and caused damages valued at $100.00 On Tuesday, July 21st at 1:58 in the early morning, an officer located a 47-year old Salem male in the 400 block of Hogan Adam Lane who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the warrant and released after paying fines and court cost. Early that same morning at 2:34, an officer was conducting a narcotics investigation in the 500 block of South Henderson. That investigation led to the arrest of a 47-year old Salem male for the possession of methamphetamine. He was incarcerated pending the application of a warrant. Later that night at 11:07 pm, an officer was detailed to the truck parking lot on Babb Lane in reference to a disturbance and suspicious activity. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 43-year old male of Steelville, Missouri for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Anyone with any information regarding the theft reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to call the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

On Tuesday, July 28th, Dent County deputies conducted a traffic stop neat the intersection of Route J and Dilworth. The vehicle was stopped for expired registration. After making contact with the driver, it was discovered that she didn't have a valid driver's license and no valid insurance. The driver was issued summons to appear in court and was released. Then on Saturday, August 1st at about 1:12 in the morning, deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 2000 block of Dent County Road 4110. A search was conducted of the vehicle and as a result of the search, a 41-year old female of Salem, was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. She was transported to the Dent County Jail and placed on a 24-Hour Hold. On Sunday, August 2nd, deputies responded to the 2400 Block of County Road 5015 for the report of a suspicious male walking on the county road. Dent County deputies made contact with the male upon their arrival. While securing the subject, suspected marijuana was found on his person. As a result, 34-year old Brian Weber of Salem was arrested. Weber was transported to the sheriff’s Office and was released with a summons to appear in court.

The Cardinals start a three game series with the Cincinnati Reds tonight at the Great American Ballpark. John Lackey (9-6, 2.78) will face Cincinnati's Anthony DeSclafani (6-7, 3.75). Lackey will be making his team-high 22nd start of the season. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 5:15 with the game beginning at 6:00

The Kansas City Royals will start a three game set in Detroit tonight against the Tigers. Danny Duffy (4-5, 4.28 ERA) will face Justin Verlander (1-3, 4.86 ERA) in the series opener.

Graveside services for Joyce Marie Look, age 78, of Rolla will be Friday at the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Crawford County. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Memorial services for Robert Haley of St. James will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be held from 11:30 until 12:30 Saturday at the chapel.

Memorial services for Reba Cunningham of Salem, age 53, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Round Pond Baptist Church. Interment will be in the Round Pond Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family for final expenses. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
