ELECTION RESULTS:

A primary election was held in Dent County Tuesday.  A total of 4,020 ballots were submitted which broke down to 3,308 Republican ballots, 705 Democrat ballots and seven Libertarian ballots. The unofficial results for contested races with a local interest are as follows.

The South Central Missouri Community Action Agency (SCMCAA) will be holding a Pre-Registration for it’s Annual Dent County School Readiness Event today from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM at the Community Action Agency office at 1405South Wines Street. The program promotes readiness for low-income students in Dent County by providing vision and hearing screenings, immunization checks, weight and height screenings, dental hygiene, haircuts, fingerprinting as well as free school supplies and back packs. For more information call Sarah Richmond at 729-3500 EX 10. The Fair itself is on Saturday, August 6th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the Salem United Methodist Church on Highway 32/72 East.

The Salem R-80 School District will conduct pre-registrations before school starts for the 2016/2017 school year. Registration will be held for new students to the area and those that have moved within the district will be in held on Wednesday, August 10th and Thursday, August 11th from 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM for the William Lynch Elementary and the Upper Elementary schools. For more information about the William Lynch Elementary School, call 729-6611 or the Upper Elementary School, call 729-4812. Registration for the Salem Middle School will be held in the Middle School Cafeteria from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM starting with new students on Monday, August 8th. Registration for 8th grade students will be held on Tuesday, August 9th; 7th grade registration will be held on Wednesday, August 10th and those starting in the 6th grade, registration will be held on Thursday, August 11th. On Friday, August 12th any new or returning students unable to attend on their assigned day may register. For more information about registration at the Salem Middle School call 729-4261. At the Salem R-80 High School, registrations will be held in the High School Gym Lobby from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. Those students entering the 12th grade can register on Thursday, August 4th and 11th graders may register on Friday, August 5th.  Registration for 10th graders will be held on Monday, August 8th and 9th graders may register on Tuesday, August 9th. A parent or guardian needs to be with the student at the time of registration in order to complete all district required forms. Scott Schebler's three-run homer in the ninth inning off Sueng Hwan Oh (2-2) rallied the Cincinnati Reds to a 7-5 victory over St. Louis Tuesday night. Brandon Moss and Tommy Pham hit solo homers in the eighth for a short lived 5-4 lead. The Cards also got solo homers from Adam Wainwright and Jedd Gyorko in the game. The Cards and Reds play again today starting at 5:15 on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced they have activated infielder Jhonny Peralta (left thumb) and first baseman/outfielder Brandon Moss (left ankle) from the 15-day disabled list and added newly-acquire left-handed pitcher Zach Duke to the team’s 25-man active roster. In order to make room for the three player additions, the team placed All-Star shortstop Aledmys Diaz (right thumb fracture) on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 1, and optioned left-handed pitcher Dean Kiekhefer and outfielder Randal Grichuk to Memphis (AAA).

Salvador Perez hit a two-run home run in the seventh inning that carried the Kansas City Royals to a 3-2 win over Tampa Bay Tuesday night. The home run lifted the Royals to their 12th win in their last 13 games against Tampa Bay. Chris Young (3-8) got the win in relief, and Kelvin Herrera pitched the ninth for his third save. The two teams play again tonight.

St. Louis Blues announced the club has signed forward Danny Kristo to one-year, two-way contract. Kristo, 26, spent the past four seasons in the AHL, including stints with the Hamilton Bulldogs (2012-13), Hartford Wolf Pack (2013-15), and Chicago Wolves (2015-16).

Funeral services for Robert Larry Fischbach of Lecoma, age 86, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Kenneth A. Salts of Rolla, age 73, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Ridgeview Christian Church in Rolla. Visitation will be at the James and Gahr Mortuary Rolla Chapel Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memeorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the Christian Campus Fellowship.

A Memorial Service for Billie Jean Gamblin of Salem, age 77, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Estep Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the Billie Gamblin family.

A Memorial Service for Eula May Fudge of Licking, age 63, will be held this Saturday afternoon at 2:00 Fox Funeral Chapel in Licking. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time Saturday.
