The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning for their regular meeting in the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams was in to report that $21,810 was received from the US Forest Service for the completion of the Title II Project and that money will go into the Road and Bridge Fund under Title II. The question was asked if the county was going to opt out of the Back to School Sales Tax Holiday. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles noted that due to the fact that the economic benefit was negligible the County was not opting out. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that he had a crew out replacing county road signs that have been damaged or stolen, brush was being cut on Dent County Road 5080, and truck #119 was being serviced. He went on to say that, weather permitting, West Construction would continue the chip and seal overlay on county road 5015, the Doss Road, and county road 6240, commonly called Gladden West. Purcell stated that this morning he, along with MRPC representative Kelly Sink-Blair, would be meeting with ONSR Deputy Superintendent Russ Runge at the junctions of Dent County Road 6530 and 6670 in regards to Federal Lands Access Program (FLAP), which comes under the Federal Highway Program. He said the objective is to asphalt county road 6670 down Tan Vat Hill to improve access to federal lands. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said brush was being cut on Dent County Roads 4290 and 4283 and men were patching chip and seal on county roads 2250 and 3233. Larson added that he also had a crew checking for washouts from Sunday’s rain fall, which was up to 2.5 inches of precipitation, plus checking on a report that a tree was down on county road 5300. Skiles said that work continues to develop a Hazardous Mitigation Plan with the State Emergency Management Agency. He said the Commission had to submit a letter verifying they would cover the local match if awarded the federal grant. The total cost would be about $26,000 and the grant application would be completed to decrease the County’s cost to about 25% of the total cost, which would be in the 2017 budget. Skiles also reported he would not be at Thursday’s Commissioners meeting as he would be attending Missouri County Commissioners Board Meeting in Springfield to plan next years  Commissioners meeting training and to set legislative priorities. The Commissioners voted 3-0 to not meet on Thursday. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said voters with questions as to where they are to vote should call her office at 729-4144 and you must bring your voter registration card or ID when you vote. With Thursday’s meeting cancelled the next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct their August meeting tonight at the fire station beginning at 6:00 PM. After approval of the agenda and a review of the minutes from the July meeting, the Board will approve bills, review their calendar of upcoming events and address the monthly reimbursement report. The Board will conduct any old lingering business and during new business the Board will set an upcoming date for a public tax meeting. Following various reports on items concerning the district, the Board may vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, if necessary and set their next meeting for Tuesday, September 6th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 PM.
