The 4-H/FFA Carcass Show will be next Monday, July 27th, 6:30 pm at the Salem Butcher Shop. Livestock Extension Specialist Ted Cunningham from the Dent County Extension will present the carcass results and trophies for carcass and overall champions. The reserve champions will also be awarded Monday night.

An accident happened Tuesday morning at 10:45 in Crawford County on Highway 49 about nine miles south of Cherryville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1996 Chevrolet S-10 driven southbound by 21-year old Matthew Eaton of Cherryville, failed to negotiate a curve and traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned. Eaton suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by the Iron County EMS. Eaton was wearing a seat restraint when the accident occurred and the vehicle was totaled. The S-10 was removed from the scene by Abney’s Towing.

An accident happened Wednesday afternoon at 3:45 on Route BB about three miles east of Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 2013 Honda Goldwing driven by 50-year old Willam Foster of Rolla, attempted to avoid a deer in the roadway. The motorcycle traveled off the right side of the roadway and overturned in a ditch. Foster suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by the Phelps County EMS. Foster was wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. The Honda sustained moderate damages and was removed from the scene by C&C Towing in Rolla.

An accident occurred at 4:56 on the afternoon of Saturday, July 18th on Highway 19 in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 2010 Harley Davidson Super Glide driven by David Thomas of Wateloo, Iowa, was northbound on Highway 19 from Highway 32. As Thomas was accelerating quickly, he braked abruptly to avoid contact with a vehicle in front of him and then lost control, skidded and then dropped the motorcycle on it’s right side. Thomas suffered moderate injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Salem Memorail District Hospital for treatment. The Harley sustained moderate damage.

An accident occurred at 9:20 in the morning on Friday, July 17th at the Troop I headquarters at the drivers’ examiner’s parking lot. According to the highway patrol report, a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze driven by 58-year old Puja Shrestha of Rolla, left the parking lot an drove onto the sidewalk striking a 2007 Honda Accord and 2013 Ford Escape. The Chevrolet Cruze returned to the parking lot and struck a 2007 Hyundai Elantra. An occupant in the Chevrolet Cruze, 29-year old Tyler Mathis suffered minor injuries and was transported by private vehicle to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. Everyone involved was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet Cruze sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene. The Honda Accord and the Ford Escape sustained minor damage and were driven from the scene. The Hyundai Elantra sustained extensive damage and was towed by C&C Towing of Rolla.

Troop I of the Missouri State Highway Patrol had a new trooper assigned to Zone 7 serving Dent County on July 13th. He will work with a field-training officer for approximately three months before working independently. The officer is 25-year old Trooper Chase A. Pulley, a native of Richmond Heights, Missouri. His field-training officer is Trooper Gregory R. Moravec. Trooper Pulleyis a graduate of Fort Zumwalt South High School in Saint Peters, Missouri, Saint Charles Community College in Cottleville, Missouri, and Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Prior to his appointment to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Trooper Pulley was employed as a senior carpet technician with the True Clean Carpet Company in Maryland Heights, Missouri.

Healthy Dent County will host a hands-on workshop titled Using QuickBooks Software. This workshop will be held on Tuesday, July 28th from 1:00 to 5:00 PM and Chester “Ed” Pratt, local CPA with Pratt, Mitchell & Company, will be the instructor. You will learn how to get quick solutions to problems and questions, discover amazing tips and tricks, learn to use QuickBooks® the right way, and master tricky transactions. Students will have hands on instruction in the Computer Lab. Each participant will have a computer workstation. The class size will be limited to 8 students. Healthy Dent County is located in the Salem Community Center @ the Armory at 1200 West Rolla Road in Salem. There is a cost for this workshop and includes student handouts. U.S. Senator Roy Blunt’s staff will host a Mobile Office on Monday, August 3rd from 11:00 until 12:00 noon at the Dent County Courthouse. Mobile Offices are opportunities for Missourians to discuss their questions or concerns with the federal government one-on-one with members of Senator Blunt’s staff. Senator Blunt’s Columbia office also extends one-on-one service to all Missourians who have an issue with a federal agency or need additional assistance. The Salem Community Center @ The Armory is installing memorial brick pavers in the front of the entrance off of Route J. For a $200 donation, you can get a message engraved on a paver that will become a permanent part of the Community Center exterior landscape. You can personalize the paver with a name, special date, a quote, company name, club name or family. Relay For Life 2015 will be held Saturday, September 12th from 4:00 to 10:00 pm at the Salem High School Track. Randal Grichuk and Matt Carpenter each hit two-run homers, and the Cardinals survived to beat the Royals 4-3 on Thursday. John Lackey got the win going seven innings and giving up only two runs. He is now 9-5. Trevor Rosenthal gave up a run in the ninth on an Omar Infante triple. Rosenthal, though, got three straight outs to finish off his 30th save. Chris Young took the loss for the Royals. The Cardinals play Atlanta at 7:15 tonight on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Sonya Sue (Woolf) Schultz, of Ozark, formerly of Salem age 71, was held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Project Win or DCAWS.

Funeral services for Darel Joe James, age 69, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00. Interment will be in the Walker Cemetery will full military honors. Memorials are suggested to the Walker Cemetery.

Funeral services for George Hanson of Salem, age 79, will be held Monday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00. Interment will be private.

Funeral services for R.T. (Ray) Henslee of Edgar Springs, age 94, will be at 3:00 Monday at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time on Monday. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery with full military honors.

Funeral services for David Clark Wells of Salem, age 79, are incomplete and are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
