The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors met for their regular meeting Tuesday evening at the hospital library. In the summary of operations for the month of June, Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor reported that inpatient admissions were below budget for the month, as was inpatient census days and outpatient registrations. Even the emergency room visits were below budget. The hospital had a loss from operations of $23,070 for the month and had an excess of expenses over revenues after taxes of over $19,570. Even though expenses were kept in line, there was a reduction of cash during the month of $219,306. He then reported that the auditors would be in sometime in August as the fiscal year ended June 30, 2015. Pryor also stated that Monica Gargus would be starting August 1st, replacing Chief Financial Officer Becky Cunningham. Pryor reported during the month there were 797 emergency room visits with an average turnaround time of 124 minutes. He said there were 43 acute care patients; 218 ambulance runs with 212 patients being assessed; 19 surgery cases, 1,628 outpatient registrations, 226 home health visits, 8,953 lab tests, 898 radiological procedures, 171 CT scans, 30 MRI scans, 4 nuclear med scans as the machine was not functional most of the month, 2,108 cardiopulmonary procedures, 468 rehab treatments, 183 dialysis treatments and 336 clinical visits of which 147 were for podiatry. Pryor then reported the hospital auxiliary will conduct their next meeting in September. The auxiliary will have a Books Are Fun fundraiser that will be held September 10th, and the Masquerade Jewelry fundraiser will be held at the Dent County Fire Station October 8th and 9th. The final health screening for the year will be September 9th and 10th. The next Advisory Board and 5K run/walk committe meeting will be held in September. Assistant Administrator Kasey Lucas stated the state has still not paid the $210,000 for the Medicaid Attestation that has been approved. Lucas also said the hospital would go live with the MEDHOST upgrade in October or November as training for a couple people will begin in mid August. In new business, the Board approved new signature authorizations for checking accounts and lock boxes for the hospital. The Board then set a public tax meeting at 5:45 pm to held August 18th prior to the August Board meeting that night at 6:00 pm. The Board then elected new officers for 2016. Judy Thompson will be the Chairman of the Board, Vice-Chairman is Ray Bruno and Ken Sheriff as Secretary. The Board then voted to go into closed session.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving arrest warrants, theft of fuel, forgery, and a disturbance. On Wednesday, July 8th at 7:20 pm, an officer located a 29-year old Salem male who had an active arrest warrant from the State of Missouri, near Rolla Road and Highway 19. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Thursday, July 9th at 4:31 pm, a 26-year old Salem female who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem, turned herself in on the warrant at the Salem Police Department. She was taken into custody on the warrant and released after she paid all fines and court costs. Later that night at 8:59 pm, an officer was detailed to Mobil in reference to theft of fuel. The investigation of the report revealed the driver of a white Chrysler PT Cruiser with Illinois license plates, pumped $20.03 in fuel and left without paying. On Friday, July 10th at 11:00 am, an office was contacted at the station in reference to a forgery. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown forged three checks of another at Walmart for a total of $748.48. That afternoon at 1:00 pm, an officer transported a 24-year old female of Fredricktown, Missouri from Madison County, Missouri to the Dent County Jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. She was incarcerated pending a court appearance. That same afternoon at 4:25 pm, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 200 block of South Jackson in reference to a disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year old Salem male on an active arrest warrant from Dent County. He was incarcerated pending a court appearance. Anyone with any information regarding the theft of fuel or forgery reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer, Troop I, Rolla, announces boater safety classes will be held at Troop I Headquarters in Rolla, on Tuesday, July 28th and Thursday, July 30th. The classes will start at 6:00 in the evening and will conclude at 10:00. Any person born after January 1, 1984, and operating a vessel on Missouri lakes is required to have a valid Missouri boater safety card. Please go the Missouri State Highway Patrol website at www.mshp.dps.missouri.gov. On the left side of the main page look for the tab entitled "Training" and select Boat Safety and Education, select Rolla as the correct site, fill out the registration form, and then select submit. It should be noted that in order to meet the certification requirements, attendance to BOTH CLASSES IS REQUIRED. The class is free of charge. The deadline to sign up for these classes is Friday, July 24th.

Yadier Molina's three-run triple in the eighth inning gave the Cardinals a 3-2 win over the White Sox on Wednesday. With the game in the balance, the White Sox took out Zach Duke (3-4) and used closer David Robertson to get out of a base-loaded, two-out jam. Molina greeted Robertson by slapping a two-strike pitch into the right-field corner to knock in Randal Grichuk, Pete Kozma and Jason Heyward. The Cardinals play the Royals tonight in a makeup of the rainout game from June 14th, pregame is 5:20 and the game is at 6:15 on KSMO Radio.

Omar Infante scored the go-ahead run in the seventh inning on Jarrod Dyson's bunt single, and the Kansas City Royals topped the Pittsburgh Pirates, 5-1, in the rubber match of a three-game series. Mike Moustakas capped the big inning with a three-run homer, as the AL Central leaders won for the 12th time in 15 games.

The Kansas City Royals placed pitcher Jason Vargas on the 15-day disabled list on Wednesday. Vargas lands on the DL for the third time this season after leaving Tuesday's start against the Pirates with left medial elbow pain. An MRI conducted Wednesday confirmed the injury to be a UCL tear. In a corresponding move, the Royals recalled pitcher Yordano Ventura from Triple-A Omaha.

Funeral services for Sonya Sue (Woolf) Schultz, of Ozark, formerly of Salem age 71, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Project Win or DCAWS.
