The Planning & Zoning Commission held a meeting Monday night. President of the Board, Jerry Craig reported that the last official map adopted by the City of Salem was back in 1987. The Board had reviewed a preliminary city map for accuracy and reported that three descrepencies had been found and have since been corrected. The Board then addressed annexation improvements and the steps to accomplish being annexed into the city as the City will be annexing into the city limits west of Missouri Avenue. Properties to be annexed in will be west on Highway 32/72 from Missouri Avenue, north on Highway 72 to Franklin, east on Franklin to Dillworth Lane and north on Dillworth Lane to J Highway. The Planning & Zoning Board has a simple and easy 5-step procedure for the annexation. The Board then addressed the marking and tracking of zones and continuing the current mapping program. Lastly the Board proposed three resolutions for presenting to the City of Salem Board of Alderman. The first proposed resolution recommends that the City Council adopt the presented map with notations, as the official map of the City of Salem as soon as its acuracy is verified. The second proposed resolution recommends that the City Council direct the City Administrator to negotiate a working agreement with the same company, IntrinsiCorp, currently being used by the Dent County Assessor to create maps for the city on an as needed basis. And the third proposed resolution recommends that the City Council direct the City Administrator to obtain a copy of the property description for the Al Brown Fields, which was missed in the annexation before and begin the process to annex this property into the city limits and that the city use proper notification to all persons who own property touching the current city limits what the process is to annex into the city and request that all who desire to do so to apply at the City Administration Building by September 30th. The Planning & Zoning Commission meeting was then adjourned. The City of Salem Board of Alderman then held their regular meeting Monday night. After approval of the agenda and in unfinished business, City Clerk Mary Happel presented the application for the Mobile Home Park at 701 East Center, which has been brought into complicance for the Board's approval and they approved that license. The trailer park at 101 North Park still has not filed an application and has not been brought into compliance, to which the Board suggested sending a letter to the owner. The Planning & Zoning Commission President, Jerry Craig presented the three proposed resolutions from the meeting held prior and the Board approved the proposed recommendations. City Administrator Ray Walden then reported that the a new sign was up for the 9-hole Golf Course and that the City Pool will start being open longer with more hours. Correcting a story previously printed in Your World Today, dated Friday, July 17th. The Dent County Commission decided to take sealed bids on the old Treasurer’s safe located in the courthouse foyer. Those bids will be due by July 30th at 10:00 am. If mailed, bids should be addressed to the Dent County Clerk, 400 North Main Street in Salem; or you can drop them off in her office during normal business hours or before 10:00 in the morning on July 30th. Again that address is 400 North Main Street in Salem. Thank you.

As mid-Missouri feels the effects of summer, rising temperatures bring increasing chances of pavement blow-ups on area highways. A pavement blow-up occurs when heat causes the roadway surface to expand at a crack or joint where moisture has seeped in. The crack, which weakens the roadway, combines with the heat to cause the pavement to buckle and warp. Motorists are advised to be on the watch for buckling pavement and report roadway concerns by calling MoDOT's toll-free customer service center at 1-888-ASK-MODOT (275-6636) or online at www.modot.org.
