The Dent County Commission met Monday morning for their regular meeting at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5170, 5220, 5420, 5500 and 6670. Purcell went on to say brush would be cut on county road 6510 and a man would be going to Springfield for more oil to do chip and seal repair this week before the recoating of several roads the week of July 25th. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson indicated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2180, 2190, 3335 and 3337, while materials would be added and grading done on county roads 3330 and 3333. Larson also said materials would be added to Dent County Road 2370 and brush would be cut on county road 6160. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said he would be attending a Jump Start Steering Committee meeting this morning at 11:30. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported absentee voting continues for the August 2nd primary and for any one who has moved in Dent County, please contact her office to make sure that you are registered at your current address. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 5:40 early Sunday evening in Crawford County on Highway 19 about two miles south of Cuba. According to the highway patrol report, a 2016 Dodge Journey driven by 68-year old David Radford of Cuba attempted to turn left onto highway 19 and was struck in the front by a 2007 Harley Davidson driven by 42-year old Shane Ryerson of Cherryville. Ryerson suffered serious injuries and was transported by Arch Air to Mercy in Creve Coeur. A passenger on the Harley, 31-year old Molly Highley of Cuba, suffered  moderate injuries and was transported by the Crawford County ambulance to Missouri Baptist in Sullivan. Everyone was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Harley Davidson had extensive damages and was removed by a private party. The Dodge Journey sustained moderate damage and was towed by Miles and Sons Towing.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their July meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00. After approval of the minutes from the June 23rd meeting, Chief Financial Officer Monica Gargus will update the Board with the summary of operations and statistics reports for June followed by Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Brooks with the CNO reports. Hospital Administrator Kasey Lucas will give the auxiliary report, a legislative update and the patient satisfaction survey results followed by the Chief of Staff report. In old business, there will be the 2011 strategic planning goals update, the Community Health Needs Assessment, the Ozark Independent Health Alliance (OIHA) and then a 2016 strategic planning meeting update. During new business, the Board will discuss purchases made for the hospital, there will be the election of officers for the new fiscal year and the Board will declare a public tax meeting will be held August 16th beginning at 5:45 pm. The Board may then vote to go into closed session. The July meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public. 

Joan Flatt will give a presentation on the Lenox Community tonight at 6:00 p.m. at the Salem Pizza Inn courtesy room for the Dent County Historical Society. She will talk about the history of "Lenox, The Village & Its people, including its stores, mill, etc., in Western Dent County. Presentations on different communities are being held to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Dent County Historical Society. The community program at 6:00 PM is free and is open to the public. Dinner is on-your-own and it starts at 5:00 PM at the Pizza Inn.

At 11:40 Monday morning an accident occurred in Dent County on Route H about 3.5 miles east of Edgar Springs. According to the highway patrol report, a 2010 Volkswagon Routan driven by 82-year old Artie Patterson of Summersville was traveling eastbound and traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Patterson suffered minor injures while a passenger, 18-year old William Arnold of Plato suffered moderate injuries. Both were transported by the Phelps County ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. The Volkswagon was totaled and removed by Lucas Garage.

A close game through 5 1/2 innings turned into a blowout in an instance as the Cardinals scored four runs in the sixth and three more in the seventh and routed the San Diego Padres, 10-2 Monday night at Busch Stadium.  St. Louis remained two games behind Miami for the National League's second wild-card spot. The Cardinals got home runs from Randall Grichuk, Jed Gyorko and Steven Piscotti. The Cardinals play the Padres tonight at 7:15. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting at 6:20.

Jarrod Dyson hit a grand slam that capped a seven-run rally in the eighth inning and the Kansas City Royals broke loose after Corey Kluber cramped up, topping the Cleveland Indians 7-3 Monday night. The two teams will play again tonight.

Funeral services for H. Bernice Wisdom of Licking will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at the United Baptist Tabernacle Church in Bunker. Visitation will on today from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Church. Interment will be in the Corridon-Reynolds Cemetery in Reynolds, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the Bernice Wisdom’s Funeral Fund. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Melvin Brooks of Oblong, Illinois, age 83, will be held Wednesday at James and Gahr Chapel in Salem at 1:00. Visitation will be held from 11:00 in the morning until service time Wednesday. Interment will be in the Crisco Cemetery in Shannon County.

Funeral services for Dennis Wayne Gott of Salem, age 64, will be held Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Salem at 2:00. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9:00 in the morning until service time Thursday. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Welfare Society or the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Hospital in Seattle, Washington. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Loretta L. Weldon of Salem, age 99, will be held Thursday at 5:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 4:00 until service time.
