An accident occurred Thursday evening at 7:30 in Dent County on Dent County Road 2330 about eight miles northwest of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Ford Expedition, driven by 38-year-old Robyn L. Fratzke of Salem, ran off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The report stated that Fratzke was wearing a safety restraint and sustained minor injuries, but sought her own treatment. The Ford sustained extensive damage and was removed by the owner.

An accident occurred Friday evening at 7:10 in Phelps County on Phelps County Road 3010 about five miles east of Rolla. According to the highway patrol report, a 2009 Dodge Journey driven by 18-year old Zane A. Petty of St. James, traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck an embankment and overturned coming to rest on its top. The driver along with passengers, 17-year old Donald L. Choate of Greensboro, North Carolina, 19-year old Kody A. Pendelton of St. James and 19-year old Troy A. Russ of Steelville, all sustained minor injuries and declined treatment. According to the report, no one was wearing a safety restraint. The Dodge was totaled and removed from the scene by Spurgeon’s Towing of St. James.

An accident occurred Saturday evening at 5:50 in Dent County on Dent County Road 6530, about ten miles east of Montauk State Park. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 Toyota Tacoma driven by 19-year old John Klaesner of St. Louis, was traveling northbound when he traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The driver, along with passengers 19-year old Anselm Blake of Chesterfield, 19-year old Ryan Mulqueerny of Town and Country, and 19-year old Breanna Smith of Columbia, Illinois, all sustained minor injuries and declined treatment. According to the report, no one but Klaesner was wearing a safety restraint. The Dodge sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitakers Towing.

An accident occurred at 11:00 Thursday morning in Franklin County on Route TT about 1.1 miles east of Brush Creek Road. According to the highway patrol report, a 1996 Chrysler Town and Country driven by 19-year old Kayla Barrett of Union was traveling westbound on Route TT. At that time, a 2011 Kia Sorento driven by 56-year old Cynthia Boxx of Steeleville was traveling eastbound on Route TT. Barrett failed to negotiate a curve and crossed the centerline. The front driver’s side of the Chrysler struck the front driver’s side of the Kia. Boxx suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Mercy Hospital in Washington by the St. Clair ambulance. Everyone was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chrysler Town and Country was totaled while the Kia Sorento sustained extensive damage. Both were towed by Hoffman’s Towing.

The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will hold their next regular meeting tonight at 7:00 at the city hall council chambers. In the hearing of persons, Alex Sellers representing Chilton Oil and the Salem Alumni, will ask the board if the city will close 4th Street from Main to Iron Street, and Iron Street from 4th to 5th Streets on Saturday, September 17th. There will be live music and free food to celebrate Chilton Oil’s 50th Anniversary and the Salem Alumni weekend. Sherry Lea representing Healthy Dent County will request five hours of the city’s MRPC grant writing hours to be used on their behalf for a Neighborhood Assistance Program grant for a new gym on the back side of the Salem Community Center @ The Armory. Also Earl Brown will request permission to use the Old Middle School parking lot and ball field on July 29th to set up, and on July 30th for the sale of Mr. Leon Seneker’s estate. He would also like to request the partial closing of the alley along side of the Seneker property for those days as well. In unfinished business, Attorney William Camm Seay will update the board on any progress with the trailer court licenses that have yet to be approved by the board. After the consent agenda is approved, the board will hear from City Administrator Ray Walden and Mayor Brad Nash. The meeting will then be adjourned. The Board of Aldermen meeting tonight is at 7:00 and is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving leaving the scene of an accident, theft and a traffic violation. On Thursday, July 7th at 10:29 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for an investigation of leaving the scene of an accident. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 29-year old Salem male for driving while being intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Friday, July 8th at 1:06 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a Ruger .380 pistol valued at $400.00 from a residence in the 100 block of South Hickory. The report is under investigation. Later that same afternoon at 3:53, an officer transported a 30-year old female of Salem to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in lieu of a mental commitment order. That night at 10:06, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of the driver for possession of opium and driving while having his license revoked. The suspect was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Anyone with any information regarding the theft is asked to contact the Salem Police at 729-4242.

Ichiro Suzuki doubled and singled twice leaving him six shy of 3,000 in the Miami Marlins' 6-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals on Sunday. Giancarlo Stanton's second double of the game drove in the go-ahead run in a two-run seventh against Jonathan Broxton (1-2). Matt Holliday had three of the four hits for St. Louis on the day including a solo home run. The Cardinals will host the San Diego Padres tonight starting at 6:20 on KSMO with the pre-game show and the first pitch at 7:15.

Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth inning Sunday off Joakim Soria (3-4) that easily cleared the wall in right field to give the Detroit Tigers a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals. Detroit rookie Michael Fulmer allowed two runs and six hits in eight innings. Kansas City starter Yordano Ventura allowed two runs and eight hits in seven innings. The Royals will host the Cleveland Indians tonight.

Funeral services for Juanita Warden Nash of Salem, age 85, will be held today at 1:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time.

Funeral services for H. Bernice Wisdom of Licking will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday at the United Baptist Tabernacle Church in Bunker. Visitation will on Tuesday from 5:00-8:00 PM at the Church. Interment will be in the Corridon- Reynolds Cemetery in Reynolds, Missouri. Memorials may be made to the Bernice Wisdom’s Funeral Fund. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Melvin Brooks of Oblong, Illinois, age 83, will be held Wednesday at James and Gahr Chapel in Salem at 1:00. Visitation will be held from 11:00 in the morning until service time Wednesday. Interment will be in the Crisco Cemetery in Shannon County.

Funeral services for Dennis Wayne Gott of Salem, age 64, will be held Thursday at the First Baptist Church in Salem at 2:00. Visitation will be held Thursday from 9:00 in the morning until service time Thursday. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Welfare Society or the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Hospital in Seattle, Washington. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Funeral services for Loretta L. Wisdom of Salem, age 99, will be held Thursday at 5:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr. Visitation will be from 4:00 until service time.
