The Dent County Commission met for its regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that Saturday evening in southeastern Dent County, some areas received over 1.5 inches in ½ hour causing some road damage. Purcell said workers have already patched Dent County Road 5150 and will now do some reconstruction work and grading where areas were affected by the intense rain. Purcell went on to say grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 5410, 6305, 6485, 6493 and 6495. He went on to say brush would be cut on county roads 5020 and 6300, and the patching of chip and seal on county road 5015 (Doss Road) is being done. Purcell urges drivers to use caution on that road that features numerous hills and curves to look for the workers patching the road. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said materials would be added and grading done on Dent County Road 5330, while only grading would be done on county road 3330. Larson went on to report crews would be spreading rock on county road 2200 and doing some grading there. He did say brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6510 and workers will continue to look for downed limbs and trees from the high winds Wednesday. At the last meeting, the commission received notification from the office of Prosecution Services that the full time prosecutor’s salary went from $135,053.16 per year to $136,402 per year effective July 1st. Skiles says the only way this automatic increase in salary will stop is for the state legislature to change the state statute that calls for the prosecutors salary to be directly tied to state and federal judges salary increases, but he says he has never seen anyone introduce a bill to do that. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley is asking all people who registered to vote either online or at a state agency like the Division of Motor Vehicles, to make sure they received a voter registration card after they registered. It should have arrived about seven days after you registered. If you did not receive a voter registration card, please call her office immediately so they can look into the matter. Call 729-4144 or drop by the County Clerk’s office at the courthouse. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Monday at 9:00 at the courthouse.
