The Dent County Commission met Monday morning at the courthouse. At the meeting, both commissioners said crews were out Friday removing downed trees from county roads from storms Thursday night. In District 1, Commissioner Dennis Purcell said trees were removed from Dent County Roads 4110 and 5080 while District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said several trees were removed from a number of county roads including large trees on Dent County Road 5260. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Purcell stated grading is being done on county roads 4220, 6225, 6280 and 6480 while materials are being added to Dent County Road 5600. Purcell said brush would be cut on county roads 4150, 4155, 4243, 4245 and 5120. Another man went to Springfield to get oil for the chip and seal repairs that were to be done this week. In District 2, Commissioner Larson said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2150, 3120, 3130 and 3180. Larson went on to say brush was going to be cut on county roads 3240 and 3270, while materials were being added to county road 2150. Larson said chip and seal repair is being done on county road 3290. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said the legislature approved a $2.00 per diem increase for prisoners held for the state, but Governor Nixon reduced that to 50 cents, so the current per diem is now $21.08. Skiles also said the legislature had approved adding 15 cents per parcel for assessment, but Governor Nixon reduced it to an additional 3.75 cents per parcel. Skiles presented the sales tax figure for the month of June in Dent County for Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams who was not in attendance. July receipts came to $69,594.89. That is about $1,500 down from last year’s figure, while year-to-date, the county is still ahead $15,666.58 over last year’s total. The Road and Bridge Department sales tax receipts were $32,799.16 and the year-to-date total there is $222,181.21. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind anyone who wants to have a ballot mailed out for the Primary Election, that must be done by Wednesday, July 27th at 4:30, but she recommends that if someone needs to mail out a ballot that it be done as soon as possible to make sure it can be received and sent back. Mail out ballots MUST be received by 7:00 Tuesday, August 2nd.  Special Investigator Wayne Becker came in with the paperwork for the grant for the South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force for the commission to sign and send off to the state for payment. At the last meeting, the commission voted to authorize Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock NOT to sell the Timber Industries Property due to the ongoing Brownfield project. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday morning at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

Dent County Sheriff Rick Stallings is pleased to announce the award of the 2017 State Cyber Crime Grant (SCCG) to support the South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force. The Sheriff’s office was awarded $46,741.94 from the program through the Missouri Department of Public Safety. This grant, which is retroactive from June 1, 2016, and runs through May 31, 2017, will fund the salary of a Special investigator, located at the digital forensic lab in Salem, forensic software maintenance, internet access, and forensic software for the examination of cell phones. Dent County is the recipient of the grant and administers it for the task force agencies. There is no local match requirement for this award. The South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force provides investigations, technical support, computer forensic examinations, officer training in identifying and seizing electronic evidence and internet safety presentation to school in the region. The South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force is comprised of investigators from various agencies and provides services to Dent, Pulaski, Phelps, Crawford, Iron, Reynolds, Shannon, Texas and Washington counties. The Task Force provides investigative and technology expertise to assist law enforcement in South Central Missouri in the investigation and prosecution of cases where digital evidence may be involved, particularly crimes against children. The South Central Missouri Computer Crime Task Force is also supported by the Missouri Internet Crime Against Children (ICAC) Task Force with funds made available by the US Department of Justice from the Protect Act, as well as the funds from the SCCG program.

The Salem Police Department released some recent reports. On Thursday, June 30th at 7:11 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Casey's General Store located on Highway 32 East in reference to theft of fuel. The report revealed the driver of a dark gray Dodge Dakota pumped fuel valued $47.27 and left without paying. The report is under investigation. On Friday, July 1st at 1:45 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of a 31-year old male of Salem for driving while intoxicated and possession of marijuana. He was issued summonses to appear in court and released. That night at 11:54, an officer was dispatched to a traffic crash located at Franklin and Grand. The investigation of the crash led to the arrest of a 54-year old Salem male for driving while being intoxicated and endangering the welfare of a child. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Anyone with any information about the theft of fuel report should call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

Center Landon Ferraro, who spent last season with the Boston Bruins, has agreed to a one-year, two-way contract with the St. Louis Blues. Ferraro played in 58 games with the Bruins last season, scoring five goals and five assists.

Giancarlo Stanton entertained the crowd with a 61- homer power show in San Diego, downing defending champion Todd Frazier for the Home Run Derby crown. Giancarlo Stanton's home runs totaled 5.14 MILES in length. The 87th All-Star Game is tonight at 6:30 on FOX Network.

OBITUARIES     [TOP]

Funeral services for Jack Billingsley of Steelville, age 82, will be this morning at 11:00 at the Steelville Assembly of God Church. Interment will be in the Sellers Cemetery in Dillard with full military honors. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Zora Lou Grogan of Salem, age 94, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.

Memorial services for Charles Michael Condray of Salem, 69, will be held Thursday at 12:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Salem Public Schools Alumni Association Fund.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date for Tim Prater of Salem, age 68. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr/Dent County Chapel.
