The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. Sherri Lea was in representing Healthy Dent County informing the Commissioners that she had a request from the Missouri State Highway Patrol for mapping data for their sex offender information. Lea said she told the contact person that the County’s data is accurate as to addresses, but that the names at the locations are not enhanced therefore may not be accurate. The Commissioners approved the request with the note that names may be inaccurate. Lea also thanked the Commissioners for the MRPC grant writing hours, but that time did not allow MRPC to get the grant done during the last fiscal year. She requested 8 hours for this fiscal year and Lea will be approaching the City of Salem to see if she can get additional hours from them for the project. The grant application will be for a NAP (Neighborhood Assistance Program) Grant to build a new gymnasium at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. The Commissioners approved the request for hours, 3-0. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that weather permitting, grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5130, 6490 and 6485, while brush would be cut on county road 4220. He said that a man was hauling materials to county road 5600 under the Title II Program and that project was close to being finished. Purcell wanted to remind drivers of slow moving farm vehicles on highways and county roads. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson said his crew also planned to grade as the weather permits on Dent County Roads 2150, 3260 and 3120 and that he had a man hauling materials to county road 2150. He said that brush was being cut on county road 3270 and that grader #31 was still being worked on. Larson completed his report stating the patching of chip and seal roads continued on county road 3290 in preparation for the overlay project, which is to start July 25th. A total of nine miles is to be overlaid. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that Wednesday morning he presided over a Public Housing Authority hearing in St. James. Skiles emphatically reminded those receiving rent assistance that they must read and abide by the agreement they enter into. He went on to say that Wednesday afternoon he attended a public forum at the Crossroads Inn. The meeting was to share information about Missouri Highlands Health Care locating a Federal Qualified Health Center in the Crossroads Center in Salem. Missouri Highlands is applying for a grant from the Department of Health and Senior Services for the program. Missouri Highlands Health Care’s emphasis is to provide care to the uninsured and underinsured by providing for health, dental and behavioral needs. Larson was concerned if this would affect local doctors and the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Purcell said that it sounds like the facility would compete for Medicare and Medicaid dollars. Skiles indicated he was searching for more information and in particular, if the facility in Ellington had influenced the closing of the hospital there. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that bills were being approved for payment. She stated that she balanced with the Treasurer on all accounts for June, as well as with the Collector and Assessor on monthly collections, abatements and add-ons. She said absentee voting continues for the August 2nd Primary. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
