An accident occurred at 2:05 Friday afternoon in Phelps County on Route J north of Route K. According to the highway patrol report, a 2008 Pontiac G6 driven by 23-year old Danyelle Powell of Licking was traveling northbound when the Pontiac traveled off the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned. Powell was ejected from the driver side window, and sustained serious injuries. She was flown to Mercy Hospital in Springfield by Mercy Lifeline. The Pontiac was totaled and towed from ther scene by Lucas Garage in Edgar Springs. Powell was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident.

An accident occurred at 8:05 on Saturday evening in Phelps County on County Road 1140 just north of County Road 1130. According to the highway patrol report, a 2012 Can-Am Outlander ATV, driven by 14-year old Hunter Stanger of Monticello Minnesota, was traveling northbound on Country Road 1140 when he traveled of the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. Stanger was wearing a helmet, but was ejected from the driver’s seat and  suffered serious injuries. He was transported to Phelps County Regional Medical Center. The Can-Am was totaled and removed by owner.

An accident happened Sunday at 12:27 in St. Charles County on Highway 67 at the Riverland’s Way north of the Lewis bridge. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan driven westbound on Riverland’ Way by 31-year old Jacquelyn McKuen of Cook Station, failed to yield to a northbound 2011 Honda Accord driven north bound by 41-year old Towanda Jackson of Alton, Illinois. The Dodge Caravan was struck in the left side by the Honda and traveled off the left side of the roadway and went down an embankment. Suffering moderate injuries were McKuen and her son, 4-year old Zachary and they were taken by the Christian Hospital EMS to the SSM Health DePaul Hospital in St. Louis. Also suffering moderate injuries were Jackson and the passengers in her vehicle: 43-year old Cindy Mercer of St. Louis, 5-year old Morgan Jenkins of St. Louis, 36-year old Willie Jenkins of St. Louis and 3-year old Willie Jenkins, Jr. of St. Louis. All were taken by ambulance to the SSM Health DePaul Hospital in St. Louis. Both vehicles were totaled and removed from the scene by the Alton Area Towing. Everyone was wearing seat restraints with the exception of Willie Jenkins Sr.

An accident happened in Henry County at 7:25 Sunday morning on Highway 52 at Windsor Road. According to the highway patrol report, a 2009 Pontiac driven westbound by 23-year old Cameron Kuykendall of Ada, Oklahoma, lost control on the wet roadway and went off the right side of the roadway, struck a culvert and overturned. Kuykendall suffered minor injuries while a passenger in the car, 33-year old Victoria Williams of Licking, suffered moderate injuries. Both were taken to the Centerpoint Hospital by the Pettis County EMS. It was unknown f either were wearing a seat restraint when the accident happened. The Pontiac was totaled and removed by Jays Towing.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the minutes from the June 20th meeting, City Administrator Ray Walden will address bids for 1,200 tons of Hot Mix Asphalt Overlay that the City had requested. City Clerk Mary Happel will present license renewals for trailer courts for the Board’s approval during unfinished business. Walden will then update the Board on various current and future projects, as well as issues concerning the City of Salem and those will be followed by a report from Mayor Brad Nash. The Board may vote to go into closed session. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving a theft, and traffic violations. On Thursday, June 23rd at 5:30 in the early evening, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a theft. The report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a 196-cc Baja mini bike that is black with orange flames valued $500 from the yard of a residence in the 1500 block of South Louise. The report is under investigation. At 11:28 late that same night, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The stop led to the arrest of a 17-year old male of St. Louis on an active arrest warrant from St. James. He was released with a new court date after posting bond. On Saturday, June 25th at 8:38 in the evening, an officer located a 21-year old female of Salem in the 800 block of East Missouri Highway 32 who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. She was taken into custody on the warrant and was incarcerated pending a court appearance. Late that same night at 11:11, an officer stopped a vehicle for traffic violations. The stop led to the arrest of a 31-year old Salem male for driving while being intoxicated. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. Salem Lady Tiger Softball Coach Don Smith will be holding a Lady Tiger Softball Camp for girls entering grades 9-12 starting tomorrow and lasting until Friday, July 15th. The camp will be at the Salem City Park Lady Tiger Field from 10:00 in the morning until 12:00 noon each day. The cost of the camp is $20 per person.

Gregory Polanco homered twice and Jonathon Niese turned in his best start in almost a month to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 4-2 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday. St. Louis had a three-game winning streak snapped. Niese allowed just one run on seven hits over 5 2-3 innings. Matt Carpenter had three hits for the Cardinals and drove in both St. Louis runs. The Cards and Pirates will play tonight starting at 6:20 on KSMO with the pre-game show with the game beginning at 7:15.

Aaron Sanchez wasn't feeling too good for his start against Kansas City. Aaron Sanchez overcame flu-like symptoms to work eight innings and win his eighth straight decision, Josh Donaldson and Darwin Barney each hit two-run singles in a four-run seventh and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Kansas City Royals 6-2 on Monday night. The Royals play the Blue Jays tonight at 6:07.

Funeral services for Donald Schafer, age 65, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr/Dent County Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery with Full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Ada Lorine O’Dell of Salem, age 84, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the chapel. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mary Davis of Steelville, age 67, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 Wednesday. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Earl Edward Gresham of Salem, age 68, will be held Friday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr/Dent County Chapel. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Ashley Creek Cemetery with Full Military Honors in Montauk. Memorials are suggested to the family for final expenses.

Funeral services for Chad Fredrick Yates of Bourbon, age 33, will be held Friday at 4:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 2:00 until service time. There will be no interment. Memorials may be given to the children of Chad Yates.

Funeral services for Belinda Anne Nash-Gabel of Rolla, age 62, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.

A graveside Memorial service for Geraldine (Farrar) Flett of Tulsa, age 93, will be held Sunday morning at 11:00 at the Stone Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post #99. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.
