The Dent County Commission met Monday morning at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received a call for a large tree down on Dent County Road 5015 from the storm Sunday night. Crews have removed the tree and the road is open. Purcell went on to say grading would be done on county roads 5600 and 6470 while brush will be cut on county road 5600. Purcell indicated three trucks were still hauling granite chips to the Road and Bridge Department for the chip and seal work to be done in July. Purcell said with the county doing its own hauling of the chips, they have saved over $29,000 in delivery costs. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated workers would be out checking roads to find any damage from the storms, and also to look for roads that can be graded. He said brush would be cut on Dent County Road 3220, 3260 and 3280. Larson reported a man would be assisting in the hauling of granite chips for chip and seal and another man would be going to Springfield to get oil for chip and seal repair. Larson said two men were going to try to put up the Purple Heart County road signs, but the ground is very hard in some areas. He went on to say that he and Commissioner Purcell attended the Intercounty Electric Annual meeting on Friday. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles congratulated Alex Blackwell as she has been appointed the new executive director of the Central Region Workforce. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said absentee voting is currently going on now through August 1st and she said voters should educate themselves before voting on a primary election. They should get a sample ballot from her office for the party they want to vote for to be familiar with who the candidates are. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams reported the PILT receipts came in for 2016 at $136,490 which is up from the 2015 figure of $134,514. She also reported that CART funds received in June were $58,116.36 which is more than the June 2015 figure of $56,223.12. Year-to-date, the CART receipts are up $906.69 over last year. Williams went on to report the money from the Missouri Department of Conservation to pay for the white rock for their roads came in at $9,303. At the last meeting, Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock and Deputy Collector Shannon Vankirk discussed the Property Assessed Clean Energy program they learned about at a special meeting they attended with other collector’s from other counties. PACE is a way to finance energy efficiency, renewable energy, and water conservation upgrades to buildings. PACE can pay for new heating and cooling systems, lighting improvements, solar panels, water pumps, insulation, and more for almost any property. PACE pays for 100% of a project’s costs and is repaid for up to 20 years with an assessment added to the property’s tax bill. PACE financing stays with the building even if it is sold to new owners. In the opinion of Collector Dennis Medlock, this program would not be good for Dent County. Dent County Prosecutor Andrew Curley came in to discuss a request for the transfer or ownership of a railroad right-of-way. The county approved issuing a Quit-Claim Deed from the county to Charles and Barbara Hayes. The next commissioner meeting will be Thursday at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
