An accident occurred in Texas County Monday morning at 4:40 that took the life of a Houston woman. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 Dodge Caravan driven by 55-year old Kathy Durham of Houston was traveling northbound. The Dodge ran off the roadway, struck an embankment and burned. Durham was transported to the Evans Funeral Home in Houston. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Dodge Caravan was totaled and removed by Mike Jones Towing of Houston.

An accident occurred at 6:27 Tuesday night in Franklin County on Highway 30 west of Highway K. According to the highway patrol report, a 2016 Ford F150 driven by 65-year old James Charboneau of St. Clair was traveling eastbound on highway 30. Charboneau made a left turn into the path of a 2005 Yamaha motorcycle driven by 29-year old Dustin Privett of Salem. The Ford caused the Yamaha to strike the Ford from behind and then the Yamaha overturned on its side. Privett suffered minor injuries and went to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan by private conveyance. Everyone involved was wearing a safety device at the time of the accident. The Ford F150 sustained moderate damage and was driven from the scene. The Yamaha motorcycle sustained moderate damage and was removed by a private tow.

An accident happened at 8:15 Tuesday night in Phelps County on Second Street, just west of Main Street in Newburg. According to the highway patrol report, a 2012 Chevrolet Malibu was parked when 7-year old Gage Rowe of Newburg struck the rear of the parked vehicle. Rowe suffered minor injuries and was taken by a private vehicle to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. The Chevrolet Malibu sustained minor damage and was left at the scene. 

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct a June meeting on tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 PM. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the May meeting held May 31st, Chief Financial Officer Monica Gargus will update the Board with the summary of operations and statistics reports and Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Brooks will then present her reports for May. Hospital Administrator Kasey Lucas will give an auxiliary report as well as a legislative update, and patient satisfaction survey results. In old business, the Board will address an update on their 2016 strategic planning goals, the Community Health Needs Assessment, and the Ozark Independent Health Alliance (OIHA) and the 2017 budget. During new business the Board will address any purchases made for the hospital. The Board may then vote to go into closed session. The June meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Salem present, “Star Spangled Salute from the Ozarks”, as this years’ theme for the Independence Day parade in Salem, which will be held on Monday, July 4th beginning at 6:00 pm. Those interested in participating in the July 4th parade should fill out an entry form and return the completed form by Wednesday, June 29th.  A reminder, no ATV’s are allowed. Lineup positions will be on a first come, first served basis, and available by July 1st. Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock wants to remind everyone that if your 2013 Real Estate Taxes are still due and owing, you MUST pay them in full by June 30th to avoid paying an additional $25 per parcel for advertising costs in the Salem News. If you have not paid your 2013 Real Estate Taxes, you can do so now only by cash, debit card, credit card, money order or cashiers check. NO PERSONAL CHECKS WILL BE ACCEPTED!!!  Also there have been some changes in the delinquent tax sale laws. If you do NOT pay your 2013 Real Estate Tax IN FULL by June 30th, then ALL three years (2013, 2014 and 2015) will be declared due by August 19th. If the taxes are still not paid by that date, this parcel will be sold at the tax sale on August 22nd, 2016. If you do not understand the new tax sale law or you have other questions, please contact the Dent County Collectors office at 729-3911 between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM, Monday through Friday.

An Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District (ORSWMD) special waste collections drive collected 24,659 pounds of residential recyclable electronics, appliances and tires. Some 213 vehicles from Phelps County and 47 vehicles from neighboring counties dropped off items at the May 21st collection in Rolla. Electronics, appliances and other corded items accounted for 12.32 tons, and 529 tires added an additional 11.41 tons to the collection.

A MANDATORY meeting for all market animal project and cured ham/bacon members will be held Tuesday, June 28th at the Old City Hall beginning at 7:00 PM. It is also highly recommended that other 4-H’ers and Clover Kids exhibiting an animal at the Expo attend this meeting to receive information concerning the livestock set-up and schedule of events.

Michael Wacha pitched into the seventh inning for his first win in nearly two months and the St. Louis Cardinals waited out Jake Arrieta before roughing up Chicago's bullpen in a 7-2 victory over the Cubs on Wednesday. The Cardinals have the day off.

Matt Reynolds snapped a sixth-inning tie with his first major league home run, leading Noah Syndergaard and the New York Mets past the Kansas City Royals 4-3 on Wednesday for a two-game sweep in their World Series rematch. The Royals have the day off.

Funeral services for Richard L. “Dick” Rogers, age 83, of Rolla, MO, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Greentree Christian Church, Rolla, MO. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Fox Chapel in Licking. Richard L. “Dick” Rogers passed away June 17, 2016.  All arrangements are under the direction of the Fox Funeral Home in Licking.

Funeral services for Stanley Leon Craft of St. James, age 64, will be held Friday at 12:00 at the First Pentecostal Church of Vichy. Visitation will be from 10:30 until service time. Memorials are suggested to the First Pentecostal Church of Vichy. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary of St. James.

Funeral services for Joyce H. Cornelius of Rolla, age 77, will be held Saturday morning at 10:30 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Rolla. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time Saturday. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.
