The Dent County Commission met Thursday morning for their regular meeting. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5460 and 6580, while materials will be added to county road 4080. He said two dump trucks and pup trailers were still hauling three loads of chips per day to stockpile them for the county chip and seal projects coming up in July. Purcell reported on the South Central Missouri Community Action Agency meeting he attended Tuesday in Winona. He said there are still summer jobs available at the Current River  State Park, but income guidelines may limit those who qualify or are interested and they can go online to summerjobs.mo.gov to find out more. Purcell said 45 homes participated in the weatherization program over the last 12 months starting July 1st and the average cost of those who used the program came to $3,167. He went on to say the SCMCAA is looking at building a new facility in Poplar Bluff. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said grading would be done on Dent County Road 2050 while chip and seal repair is being done on county road 2240. Larson went on to report that a dump truck and pup trailer from his district are also hauling chips for the upcoming chip and seal projects next month. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said he attended the Economic Development Grant Steering Committee lunch yesterday at His Place and heard Josh Borstein from Jump Start from Cleveland, Ohio go over a number of economic factors our community is facing from income levels to age and more. Borstein said there have been 279 online responses to their survey which he told the group was outstanding, the most they have had from any community. If you haven’t yet filled out the survey, you can access it at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/Salem-VOC. The last day to submit the survey will be this Saturday, June 18th. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said absentee voting will be held for the August Primary beginning June 21st. She said that the last day to register to vote in the Primary would be July 6th. David McDonald and Cliff McDonald with the Jadwin Fire Department came in to discuss with the commission a concern they had when ambulances are dispatched in their service area that they are not being included. This had led to delays in preparing landing zones or their assistance when needed. Commissioner Skiles had Justin Roderman come to the meeting to address this issue and after a discussion between the three, it was agreed the fire department would be dispatched every time an ambulance is sent to a scene. The next meeting of the commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
