The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the courthouse for their regular meeting. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams brought in the quarterly request for the budget transfer from the Senior Citizens Fund to the holding fund of $17,750 to pay for the SMTS Busses and Salem Nutrition Site. Joan Sample was also in to ask if the county was going to continue to grade Private Lane 444 off of Dent County Road 4410. Larson said that road is in the process of being turned over to the county by the US Forest Service and it would continue to be graded. They are waiting for the paperwork from the government. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2400, 5070, 5130, 5380 and 5390. Brush is going to be cut on county road 5600 and a man is going to Springfield to get oil for the Dura-Patcher for chip and seal repair this week. Purcell indicated he would be attending a Strategic Advance meeting in Potosi put on by the MRPC that has an emphasis on the areas of Economic Development through the marketing of the region, its resources and more. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4290 and 5260 while crews will be hauling white rock to county roads 2500, 2530 and 2533 as part of the materials agreement with the Department of Conservation. He said brush would be cut on county roads 2300, 3220, 6680 and 6690. Larson went on to report that District 2 is still one man short and has another man on vacation, so if there is an immediate need in District 2 to please call the shed at 729-7770 or him at 729-3915. Commissioners Larson and Purcell will both be attending the insurance consortium meeting Wednesday in Springfield. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that her office, the Collector and Assessor all balanced for the month of May on all monthly collections, abatements and add-ons. The county will take phone bids on 1,000 gallons of unleaded and 7,000 gallons of diesel. The next meeting of the commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

An accident happened Sunday at 2:40 on Highway 19 south at the entrance to the Current River State Park in Shannon County. According to the highway patrol report, a 2012 Buick Verano driven by 34-year old Jason Gee of Piedmont, pulled into the path of a 2006 Victory Motorcycle driven southbound by 54-year old Henry Jones of Licking. The motorcycle struck the car, ejecting Jones. He suffered moderate injuries and was taken by the Mercy Ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center. The motorcycle was totaled and was removed from the scene by Tyler’s Towing while the Buick Verano had only minor damages and was removed from the scene by the owner. Everyone involved was wearing safety equipment or restraints.

The Salem Police Department released reports. On Thursday, May 26th 12:21 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to the Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health Center located at 203 North Grand in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed a 28-year old female of Waynesville had assaulted a male client of the center and had an active arrest warrant. She was taken into custody on the warrant and for assault. She was issued a summons to appear in court for assault and incarcerated pending extradition on the warrant. That afternoon at 3:45, an officer was contacted in reference to a lost wallet at Wal-Mart. The report led to the arrest of a 41-year old Salem female who had found the wallet, took approximately sixty dollars cash and used the debit card for purchases. She was issued summonses to appear in court for stealing and fraudulent use of a credit card and released. At 9:29 that night, an officer was dispatched to the Division of Family Services located on Highway 32 West in reference to property damage. The report revealed that someone unknown broke the front door glass out on the building with a piece of concrete. The value of the glass is approximately $200. City of Salem Emergency Management Director Allen Kimrey reported the emergency weather (tornado) sirens in Salem would be tested this Wednesday morning at 10:00. They ask that you have a prepared emergency weather plan at your home and business, and react to the sirens as if it were a real emergency to make sure that your plan is effective and logical.

The St. Louis Cardinals will be at Cincinnati to start a three game series with the Reds. Game time is 6:10 with the pre-game show on KSMO Radio at 5:15.

The Cardinals optioned second baseman Kolten Wong to Memphis (AAA) following Sunday night’s 6-3 win over San Francisco. The move opens up space on the team’s 25-man active roster for the anticipated activation off the disabled list of infielder Jhonny Peralta. The 25-year old Wong appeared in 49 games, starting 35, with St. Louis this season, batting .222 (28-126).

Mark Trumbo and Matt Wieters hit solo homers in the seventh inning to back a sparkling pitching performance by Mike Wright, and Baltimore Orioles beat Kansas City 4-1 Monday night to extend the Royals' losing streak to five games. Wright and Kansas City’s Danny Duffy were locked in a scoreless duel until the Royals pushed across an unearned run in the seventh. The Royals play Baltimore tonight at 6:05.

The St. Louis Blues announced that forward Alexander Steen underwent successful surgery to repair his injured left shoulder. He is expected to be sidelined 4-6 months. Steen originally injured his shoulder on February 20th in Arizona after being hit on a play in the offensive zone.

Funeral services for Dr. Richard E. Cole of Montauk, age 74, will be held at 11:00 this morning at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Columbarium. Memorials are suggested to the Mid Ozark Casa Program. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County James and Gahr Chapel in Salem.

Funeral services for Amanda Lynn “Mandie” Atkinson of Salem, age 32, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the New Harmony Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for Leland Greenwalt of Park Hills, formerly of Wesco, age 73, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 Wednesday. Interment will be in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Steelville. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American Lung Association.

Funeral services for Jacqueline F. “Jackie” Givens of Jadwin, age 81, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday. Interment will be in the Gladden Empire Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the Gladden Empire Cemetery.
