An accident happened Friday afternoon at 12:55 in Franklin County that left two women with serious injuries. According to the highway patrol report, the accident happened on Highway 100 just east of Oak View Estates Court when 73- year old Janice Borgmeyer of Salem was driving a 2006 Nissan Sentra eastbound and was going too fast for the conditions. She failed to negotiate a curve and crossed the center line causing the front of the Sentra to strike the front of a 2014 Nissan Altima driven westbound by 52-year old Marie Rounds of St. Charles. Borgmeyer suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Mercy Hospital in St. Louis by the Meramec Ambulance. Rounds also suffered serious injuries and was taken by the Meramec Ambulance to the Mercy Hospital in Washington. Both vehicles were totaled in the accident and both women were wearing seat restraints when the accident occurred.

An accident happened in Dent County Friday night on Highway 32 about 13 miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2004 Mercury Sable driven westbound by 32-year old Jeanni Fudge of Licking, traveled off the right side of the roadway and struck a culvert. Fudge suffered minor injuries and was taken by the Salem EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Mercury sustained moderate damages and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Salem Board of Aldermen will hold their regular meeting tonight at the Salem City Council Chambers at 7:00 or immediately after a Planning and Zoning Commission public hearing and meeting on rezoning Lot 38, Block 1 of the Douglas addition from Residential R-3 to Commercial C-1 owned by Dave and Jo Ann Wells that starts at 6:30. At the board meeting, the board will review bids for the sale of electric poles. The board will hear from Aldermen Chad Heithold on the Yard Waste Pickup Policy, before hearing from City Administrator Ray Walden on the funeral leave policy, a new agreement with the city’s electric provider, and the COPs grant application request. Mayor Brad Nash will then give his report. The board will discuss and vote on Bill #3312 that would allow Mayor Nash to sign the new electric agreement with the Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission and the city as a member of the Mid-Missouri Municipal Power Energy Pool. The board may then vote to go onto closed session. The meeting of the Board of Aldermen of the City of Salem is open to the public.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors will conduct a June meeting this Tuesday, June 7th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 PM. After approval of the agenda and a review of the minutes from previous meetings, the Board will review financial reports and approve bills. The Board will review the calendar of events as well as their monthly reimbursement report and then address any old or new business followed by reports. The Board may vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel, if necessary. They will set their next meeting for Tuesday, July 5th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 PM.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving an assault, a lost wallet and property damage. On Thursday, May 26th 12:21 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Southeast Missouri Behavioral Health Center located at 203 North Grand in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed a 28-year old female of Waynesville had assaulted a male client of the center and had an active arrest warrant. She was taken into custody on the warrant and for assault. She was issued a summons to appear in court for assault and incarcerated pending extradition on the warrant. That afternoon at 3:45, an officer was contacted in reference to a lost wallet at Wal-Mart. The report led to the arrest of a 41-year old Salem female who had found the wallet, took approximately sixty dollars cash and used the debit card for purchases. She was issued summonses to appear in court for stealing and fraudulent use of a credit card and released. At 9:29 that night, an officer was detailed to the Division of Family Services located on Highway 32 West in reference to property damage. The report revealed that someone unknown broke the front door glass out on the building with a piece of concrete. The value of the glass is approximately $200. Anyone with any information regarding the property damage reports is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Salem Park Board will conduct a meeting on Tuesday night at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory beginning at 7:00 PM. The purpose of the meeting will be the organization of the Board along with updates and reports. The meeting is open to the public.

Aledmys Diaz, Matt Adams and Yadier Molina each had an RBI during a four-run sixth inning and the St. Louis Cardinals came from behind for the second straight game to beat the San Francisco Giants 6-3 on Sunday night. The Cardinals have the day off. They start a three-game series with Cincinnati on Tuesday at 6:10.

Francisco Lindor hit one of Cleveland's four solo homers and drove in three runs, and the Indians completed a four-game sweep of the Kansas City Royals in a rain-delayed 7-0 victory Sunday. The Indians moved past the Royals into first place in the AL Central. Kansas City will be at Baltimore tonight.

Funeral services for Kenny Pratt of Steelville, age 85, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Liberty Cemetery in Steelville.

Funeral services for Joyce Christine Pax of Salem, age 69, will be today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family of Joyce Pax.

Funeral services for Doris Grieg of St. James, age 82, will be held today at 1:00 at the St. James Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Adams Cemetery of St. James. Memorials may be given to Adams Cemetery.

Funeral services for Dr. Richard E. Cole of Montauk, age 74, will be held at 11:00 Tuesday morning at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be held tonight from 6:00-8:00 with a prayer service at 7:30, at the Church. Interment will be at the Sacred Heart Columbarium. Memorials are suggested to the Mid Ozark Casa Program. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County James and Gahr Chapel in Salem.

Funeral services for Amanda Lynn “Mandie” Atkinson of Salem, age 32, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the New Harmony Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family for funeral expenses.
