The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their rescheduled May meeting Tuesday evening in the hospital library. After approval of the agenda and minutes from the April 19th meeting, Hospital Administrator Kacey Lucas read the letter of resignation of Board member Joe Brand effective the date of the letter April 20, 2016. There is an opening on the Board as Joe served in the southeast Spring Creek Township west and southern half of Spring Creek east and his term was due to end in 2019. Anyone wishing to apply for the seat will then have to re-apply in April of 2017 for the remainder of the term through 2019. During the summary of operations and statistics report for April, Chief Financial Officer, Monica Gargus stated that inpatient admissions were above the monthly budgeted amount while emergency room visits were just below. The hospital had a gain from operations of $71,134. During the month, the cash flow statement showed a decrease in cash of $73,259 and days in Accounts Receivables rose to 61. Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Brooks reported during the month there were 803 emergency room visits with an average turnaround time of 127 minutes. Also during the month, there were 223 ambulance runs with 167 patients transported to the hospital, 52 surgery cases, 1,446 outpatient registrations, 170 home health visits, 7,006 lab tests, 1,018 radiological procedures, 216 CT scans, 26 MRI scans, 14 nuclear med scans, 506 rehab treatments, 165 dialysis treatments and 330 clinical visits of which 143 were for podiatry. Brooks also reported flu season is officially over and there were 56 cases confirmed. Lucas then reported that the Auxiliary will not have another meeting until Tuesday, September 6th at the Salem Community Center @ the Armory. The Board addressed 2017 Finance Committee reports for market assessment, an operating budget and capital budget and a request was made for the detailed listing by department for the Board members to take home, before approval. The request was approved. The Board approved the budgeted purchase of two computer/medical carts for $12,450 from Ipoint 3 as replacements and these items are refurbished. The Board also approved the non-budgeted purchase of an anesthesia monitor for $5,500 from Cardio Cap5 as a replacement and it is a refurbished item. When asked if this would work, Mary Lou Brooks stated that it replaces one that parts can no longer be found for. This particular model is compatible with the other one they have and the parts can be interchanged if need be. Tentatively the June meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors has been changed to Thursday, June 23rd in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 PM. The Board then voted to go into closed session.

Seven people died in traffic crashes over the 2016 Memorial Day weekend. Last year, eight people were killed during the three-day weekend. During the counting period of 6:00 PM on Friday, May 27th, through 11:59 PM on Monday, May 30th, the Missouri State Highway Patrol investigated 347 traffic crashes which included 128 injuries and six of the seven fatalities. Troopers also arrested 135 people for driving while intoxicated. During the 2015 Memorial Day holiday weekend, the Patrol investigated 298 traffic crashes which included 98 injuries and five of the eight fatalities. There were zero boating fatalities over the 2016 Memorial Day weekend. Troopers investigated 17 boating crashes involving seven injuries. There were no drownings. Troopers arrested 21 people for boating while intoxicated and made 71 drug arrests.

The Bonebrake Center of Nature and History will present “Mother Goose’s Flora and Fauna” on Tuesday, June 7th starting at 6:30 p.m. Mother Goose will be returning this year with a series of programs a few stories, a couple of songs, snacks, and maybe a short walk close to the house, depending on the weather. This program is especially designed for toddlers, preschoolers, and up to early elementary school-aged children. The cost is $1.00 per person or $5.00 for the whole family. The Salem Tigers Basketball is hosting their 1st Annual Golf Tournament on Monday, June 6th at the Spring Creek Country Club, located at 99 Dent County Road 3220 in Salem. Registration is at 8:00 AM with the Shot Gun Start at 8:30 AM and lunch will follow the tournament at the Country Club. The cost is $160 per team, 4 person scramble. There will be green fees, an a limited number of riding carts available for a $20 rental fee. Hole sponsor fee is $100 and there will be individual and team prizes. Mulligans are available @$5 per-limit 2 per person, 8 per team. All teams must pre-register by e-mailing Coach Conrad Prugh at conradprugh@gmail.com or for questions call 247-3113. Proceeds go to benefit Salem Tigers Basketball Program.

Zach Davies had a career-high nine strikeouts over eight shutout innings, and the Milwaukee Brewers averted a three-game sweep with a 3-1 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Wednesday. The Cardinals have the day off before going into a three-game set with San Francisco.

Danny Duffy pitched six effective innings and rookie Whit Merrifield had two hits and scored a run as the Kansas City Royals beat the Tampa Bay Rays 6-3 on Wednesday night to complete a 6-0 homestand. Royals relievers Joakim Soria, Kelvin Herrera and Wade Davis held the Rays scoreless over the final three innings. The last time the Royals had a homestand of 6-0 or better was June 2-8, 1988, when they went 7-0. The Royals begin a four-game set with the Indians starting tonight at 6:10.

Funeral services for Lisa Lemons of Rolla, age 47, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the St. James Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 to 1:00 at the Chapel. Interment will be at the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Memorials are suggested to the James and Gahr Mortuary for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for Charles Henry Hadley of St. James, age 98, will be held Friday at 3:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Hibler Cemetery in Steelville.

Funeral services for Charlene Hill of Blue Eye, age 89, will be held Friday at 3:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be from noon until service time. Interment will be in the Westfork Sutterfield Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Parkinson’s Disease.

Funeral services for Ruth Faye Lumsden of Anutt, age 76, will be held Saturday at 12:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Anutt Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Louise Tucker of Bunker, age 84, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Bunker Union Church. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment will be in the Bay Cemetery.

Funeral services for Joyce Christine Pax of Salem, age 69, will be Monday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family of Joyce Pax.
