The Dent County Sheriff's Department has issued some reports. On May 23rd, the Dent County K9 Unit was requested by the Salem Police to assist with a male subject who had fled on foot. The K9 Unit was deployed and apprehended the male subject after tracking into a heavily wooded area. The K9 unit located 30-year old Kent Garn of Rolla who was taken into custody. Garn had fled from officers due to an outstanding warrant out of Texas County, Missouri.  Also on May 23rd, Dent County Deputies responded to the 22000 block of Highway 32 East for an animal dispute. During contact with the suspect, Shannon Hawkins of Boss, it was discovered that Hawkins had an active warrant for her arrest. Hawkins was transported to the Dent County Jail and later posted bond. On May 27th at 1:22 in the morning, deputies with the Dent County Sheriff's Office conducted a traffic stop at the intersection on Highway 72 and Route J. A consent to search was conducted. As a result, 42-year old Luke Moreland of St. James, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance.  A warrant was issued and Moreland is being held on a $10,000 cash only bond. On May 29th, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Warfel Street near East Ellis Street. During the course of the traffic stop, it was discovered that the driver did not have a valid driver's license.  During a consent search, Deputies located drug paraphernalia that field tested positive for methamphetamine. As a result, Ashley Soder of Salem was arrested. Soder was transported to the Dent County Jail pending warrant application.

Captain James W. Remillard, the commanding officer of Troop I, of the Missouri State Highway Patrol, Rolla, announces troopers will be conducting a sobriety checkpoint in Dent County during the month of June. The checkpoint will occur in a specific location where a larger number of alcohol-related traffic crashes occurred last year. The officers conducting the checkpoint will be utilizing the mobile DWI unit referred to as the BAT van (Breath Alcohol Testing), which the Patrol acquired through the Missouri Department of Transportation's Highway Safety Division. The van is equipped with communications technology, a breath testing instrument, radios, and other equipment and supplies related to DWI enforcement. Captain Remillard urges all motorists passing through a checkpoint to use extreme caution by slowing down, keeping their eyes on the road and vehicles ahead for any sudden stopping, and following the directions of the officers. Captain Remillard indicated officers at the checkpoint will be checking operators licenses and looking for motorists who are driving while intoxicated by alcohol or other drugs. 

The University of Missouri Extension in partnership with Edward Jones Investments presents a Medicare Boot Camp on Saturday, June 4th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the Phelps County Courthouse Multipurpose Room, located at 200 North Main Street in Rolla. This session is free of charge and the free workshop will feature: Medicare eligibility and enrollment, Medicare Parts A, B & D, Medicare Part C (Medicare Advantage), Medigap (Medicare Supplements) choices, Medicare benefits and other related issues as well as protecting your Medicare. Persons nearing age 65 who are eligible for Medicare, persons approaching Medicare eligibility due to a disability, persons with end-stage Renal Disease (ESRD), caregivers and individuals working with Medicare beneficiaries should plan on attending this workshop. There will be an open house will be held at Montauk State Park on Saturday, June 4th from 1:00 to 5:00 in the afternoon to give visitors an opportunity to ask questions and receive some useful information pertaining to future development and direction of the park. Visitors may also review the park’s stream and natural resource management plans. Please make plans to attend this informative meeting. The open house will be held in the Searcy Building meeting room and is open to everyone.

The Meramec Regional Planning Commission (MRPC) and Phelps County Public Housing Agency (PHA) Family Self-Sufficiency will host a free workshop Wednesday, June 8th on “Bank On It” and “Couponing 101” in Leasburg. The workshops will cover a Money Smart FDIC Financial Education curriculum on banking, and how to grocery shop using coupons. The workshop will be held from 11:00 AM to noon at Village Apartments of Leasburg located at 211 First Street in Leasburg, and will be presented by Tammy Rigsby and Savannah Vandegriffe of MRPC. Free training classes are a part of the MRPC and PHA's efforts to help prepare families who are first-time homebuyers for homeownership and make them aware of the resources available to assist with homeownership.

The St. Louis Blues have agreed to terms with Coach Ken Hitchcock for a one-year deal to coach the team for the 2016-2017 season. Hitchcock, who will turn 65 in December, will be back for a sixth season with the Blues after being hired by the organization on Nov. 6, 2011. Hitchcock is 224-103-36 in 363 regular-season games with team, ranking second in wins behind Joel Quenneville (307).

Matt Carpenter tied his season high with four hits for the second straight game, scored four times and drove in two runs to lead the St. Louis Cardinals over the Milwaukee Brewers 10-3 on Tuesday night. Carpenter and Matt Holliday - 2 for 4 with two RBIs - continued their torrid hitting against the Brewers, this time against Wily Peralta. The Cardinals play the Brewers today at 12:40. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Lorenzo Cain homered and drove in four runs as the Kansas City Royals beat the Tampa Bay Rays 10-5 on Tuesday night, extending their winning streak to a season-best five games. The Royals play the Rays tonight at 7:15.

Funeral Mass for Rex A. Bohm of Rolla, age 78, will be held this morning at 10:00 at the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Rolla. Interment will be in the Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Aurora. Memorials are suggested to the St. Pats Pregnancy Resource Center or PCRMC Hospice. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Lisa Lemons of Rolla, age 47, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the St. James Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 to 1:00 at the Chapel. Interment will be at the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem. Memorials are suggested to the James and Gahr Mortuary for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for Charles Henry Hadley of St. James, age 98, will be held Friday at 3:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Hibler Cemetery in Steelville.

Funeral services for Ruth Faye Lumsden of Anutt, age 76, will be held Saturday at 12:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Anutt Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the American Cancer Society.
