The Dent County Commission met Monday morning for their regular meeting. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said materials would be added and grading done on Dent County Roads 2440 and 2470; while grading only would be done on county roads 4080, 5450, 5465 and 6220. Purcell indicated brush would be cut on county road 5690 and a man would be screening brown rock at the shop. Purcell said crews have finished all patch grading and now are working on the full grading of roads. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said a tree was down on Dent County Road 2195 Sunday morning and crews were able to open up enough room for traffic to pass. Crews removed the rest of the downed tree Monday. Larson said grading was being done on Dent County Road 2120 while materials were being added to county roads 2110 and 4060. He said a crew was patching chip and seal county road 2300 and another was working on the creek crossover on Dent County Road 5310. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported during the last legislative session, counties were given a $2.00 increase per diem on prisoners if the governor doesn’t hold that money back, and the deadline to approve collecting local use taxes was pushed back to November of 2018. Skiles did say that the sunset on the County Budget Law was not extended and the legislation to force DNR to sell the land back in Oregon County to create a resort was not passed. Nancy Major came in to get the county specs on creating a road base that would be acceptable for paving in the future. The next commissioners meeting will be held Thursday at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

At the Salem R-80 Board of Education board meeting last Thursday, they accepted the resignation of Lindsey Sampson who is a Kindergarten instructor. The board went into closed session on Thursday for the purpose of hiring personnel. The board approved hiring Natalie Huebner as a Speech Implementer, Angela Shaw as a first grade teacher, Kristiana Bermudez as a fourth grade teacher, Dustin Bell as a seventh grade social studies teacher and a middle school football coach, Amanda Walker as a physical education teacher, Samantha White as a math instructor, Sarah Sanders as a special education instructor, Liz Hogan as a physical science instructor, Judith Moore as an English and French teacher, Lane Howard as an agriculture instructor and as a middle school  football coach, Matt Kamprath as a middle school basketball coach, Kyle Anderson as the new golf coach, Jared Patterson as the assistant varsity basketball and assistant track coach, and Derek Freeman as an assistant track coach. The closed session was then adjourned.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving a disturbance, theft from a vehicle, and a fight. On Friday, May 13th at 9:20 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Dent County Sheriffs Department in reference to child endangerment. The investigation of the report revealed a 20-year old female of Salem had left in infant children in a vehicle parked by the Sheriff’s Office while inside attempting to post bond for an inmate. Further investigation led to her arrest for endangering the welfare of a child.  She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. That afternoon at 2:05, an officer located a 36-year old female of Salem in the 800 block of East Hunt who had an active arrest warrant from Rolla, Missouri. She was taken into custody on the warrant and was incarcerated pending extradition. On Saturday, May 14th at 3:52 in the early morning, an officer was detailed to a residence near Third and Missouri in reference to a disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 52-year old male of Salem for possession of marijuana. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. That afternoon at 2:45, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of South Warfel in reference to theft from a vehicle. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took a CD player valued at $75.00 from a black 1995 Jeep Cherokee. The report is under investigation. Late that night at 11:34, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 700 block of East Hunt in reference to a fight. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 45-year old male, a 26-year old male, a 38-year old male and a 47-year old male all of Salem for disorderly conduct fighting. The Salem High School Athletic Coaches have voted on the Tiger Awards for the 2015-2016 season. The Lady Tiger Award went to Payton Curley and the Boys Tiger Award went to Jon Arzt. Congratulations to Payton and Jon!!

The Salem Baseball Tigers will be in Jefferson City today at the American Legion Baseball Complex this afternoon at 4:00 to face the Crusaders of Jeff City Helias in Sectional baseball action. The cost of admission to this round of the playoffs is $6.00 per person who is six years of age and older. Randal Grichuck hit a tiebreaking solo homer in the ninth to lift the St. Louis Cardinals a 4-3 win over the Chicago Cubs on Monday night. Matt Adams tied the score with a two-run homer off in the seventh for St. Louis' major league-leading ninth pinch-hit homer of the season. The Cardinals play the Cubs tonight at 6:10. Salvador Perez had a career-high five hits, including a double, a triple and an RBI, to lead the Kansas City Royals to a 10-4 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Monday night. Paulo Orlando added three hits and two RBIs in the rain-delayed game for the Royals. The Royals play the Twins tonight at 7:10.

Joe Pavelski scored two goals, including the go-ahead score in the opening minute of the third period, and the San Jose Sharks beat the St. Louis Blues 6-3 to take a 3-2 lead in the Western Conference final on Monday night. The Blues play the Sharks Wednesday at 8 p.m.

Funeral services for Arnette Shelby of Salem, age 83, will be held today at 1:00 at the Dent County James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Ronnie Lee Norris of Salem, age 56, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the family for funeral expenses.

Funeral services for Mesa Evon Kibbons of Rolla, infant, will be held today at 1:00 at the St. James Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.
