The Salem Police Department released reports involving theft of fuel, a traffic violation, theft and assault. On Thursday, May 5th at 2:01 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the Casey's General Store located on Highway 32 East in reference to theft of fuel. The investigation of the report revealed the driver of a white Ford F-250 flatbed truck pumped fuel valued $10.00 and left without paying. That night at 10:14, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of the driver, a 48-year old Salem male for driving while having his license suspended and a passenger, a 50-year old Salem male, on an active fugitive arrest warrant from Jefferson County, Missouri. The driver was issued a summons to appear in court and released. The passenger was incarcerated pending extradition. On Friday, May 6th at 6:58 PM, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown took the license plate off a trailer that was parked at a residence in the 800 block of South Sligo. On Saturday, May 7th at 9:20 PM, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 200 block of South Henderson in reference to an assault. The investigation of the report revealed a 42-year old male of Salem had assaulted a 38-year old female of Salem.  Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding the theft of fuel report is asked to contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a meeting tonight at  the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 PM. Mayor Nash will direct City Clerk Mary Happel to administer the Oath of Office to newly elected official, Molly Zettel, as she was absent at the last meeting. There will then be an organization of the Board of Alderman, as the Board shall appoint one member of the Board to be “President of the Board of Alderman” and that must be approved by a majority of the members of the Board. In unfinished business, back on March 7th, at the Board of Alderman meeting, Alderwoman Zettel reported that the Utility Committee recommend that instead of charging Heartland Metal $0.003 per gallon for water to charge them $0.002 per gallon. A public hearing was held back on April 18th and there was no public input. If the Board approves the new rate, it will have to be set by Ordinance. City Administrator Ray Walden will update the Board on various current and future projects around town as well as the Old Middle School. Mayor Brad Nash will address items with the Board and may make appointments of standing committees, with the Board’s approval. The Board may vote to go into closed session. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their May meeting on Tuesday, May 17th in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 PM. After the approval of the agenda and minutes from the April 19th meeting, Chief Financial Officer Monica Gargus will update the Board with the summary of operations and statistics reports from the month of April and Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Brooks will then present her reports for April. Hospital Administrator Kasey Lucas will give an auxiliary report as well as a legislative update, followed by the Chief of Staff Report. In old business, the Board will address an update on their 2011 strategic planning goals, the Community Health Needs Assessment, and the Ozark Independent Health Alliance (OIHA). The Board will discuss a 2017 committee report and a strategic planning meeting. In new business the Board will consider purchases made for the hospital. The meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors for May is open to the public.

Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that troopers will be conducting a boat inspection station on Saturday, May 21st at the Onondaga State Park boat ramp in Crawford County. The inspection station will run from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and is free of charge.  This inspection station will coincide with National Safe Boating Week which will run from May 21 through May 27, 2016. Watercraft operators should ensure that everyone in the vessel is wearing an approved life jacket. Click It 4 Life And Wear It!!

The “Battle of the Bats” Softball Tournament for Russell Anderson will be held on Saturday at the Al Brown Fields starting at 10:00 AM. Co-Ed teams can register for $100 per team and the men’s league has a $200 entry fee. There is a three game gurantee. Kory Ramsey threw a no-hitter and the Jon Arzt blasted a three-run homer as the Salem Baseball Tigers shutout the St. Clair Bulldogs Saturday, 9-0 in the District 9 semi-final. Ramsey struck out 10 and walked two in going the distance. Originally, it was thought Ramsey had pitched a one-hitter Saturday, but after a coach’s discussion following the game, it was determined the Salem player should have made the play and it was changed to an error. Salem scored five runs Saturday in the 1st inning and added four more in the 6th inning, three on the strength of the Arzt homer. On Friday, Eli Floyd was 3-4 with four RBI while Logan Conway, Nate Bray and Jon Arzt all had two hits as Salem built a 7-1 lead and hung for a 10-6 win over Union Friday afternoon at Union. The Tigers will face the St. Francis Borgia Knights Tuesday at 3:30 at Union in the championship game.

The Salem Tennis Tigers will face Warrensburg on Saturday, May 21st in sectional play.

Kendrys Morales hit a walk-off two-run homer with two out in the 13th inning and the Kansas City Royals overcame a rare blown save by Wade Davis to defeat the Atlanta Braves 4-2 on Sunday. The Royals start a three-game series with the Red Sox tonight at 6:05.

Matt Carpenter homered, Yadier Molina had a tiebreaking two-run double in the top of the seventh inning and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-2 on Sunday night to avoid being swept in the three-game series. The Cardinals have tomorrow off, before starting a three-game series with the Rockies on Tuesday.

Brian Elliott had another standout game in net, David Backes and Jori Lehtera had goals and the St. Louis Blues opened their first Western Conference final in 15 years with a 2-1 victory over the San Jose Sharks on Sunday night. The Blues have tomorrow off and host San Jose at 7:00 Tuesday night starting at 6:30 on ksmoradio.com.

Funeral services for Lawrence Franklin Studdard Sr., age 90, of Sullivan will be Tuesday at 1:00 at the Pea Ridge Pentecostal Church, Pea Ridge, Missouri. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service at the Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Dale Hodges of Salem, age 76, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the Dent County James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time on Thursday. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery.
