The Dent County Commission held their meeting Thursday morning at the courthouse. In road reports, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading only would be done on Dent County Road 5380 while grading and materials would be added to county roads 4210 and 6670. Purcell stated that a bridge on Dent County Road 6220, a low water crossing had scouring occurring on the down stream side. He said that a crew would be adding rip rap in order to shore up the eroding. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading only would be done on Dent County Roads 3300, 3310 and 3313. Grading and materials would be added to county roads 2560, 2515, and 2533. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the he had received an e-mail from Sherry Lea on behalf of the Council  for Healthy Dent County inquiring if the county had any hours left with the Meramac Regional Planning Commission for grant writing. Skiles reported that there were 18 unused hours left that would expire by the end of June. The Dent County Commission did not feel that they could use them before they expired, so they were going to let the Healthy Dent County Council use those hours. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she balanced with county collector and county assessor on all monthly accounts for collections, abatements and add-ons for the month of April. She also balanced with the county treasurer for the month of April and bills were being approved. Curley stated that the courthouse will be closed on Monday, May 9th in observance of Truman’s birthday. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday, May 12th. She also noted that financing bids for two new dump trucks will be due and opened that same morning at 10:00 AM. Lonnie Lundy brought in a petition with 14 signatures from residents on Dent County Road 4220 requesting speed limit signs be posted. The Commissioners voted 3-0 and approved 25 mph signs be posted on the road. Richard Labrash dropped by to inform the Commission of a petition, on behalf of all local Veterans, asking the Department of Veterans Affairs to allow a Veterans Clinic in Salem for veterans and their families in Dent County as well as Texas, Shannon, Reynolds and Iron Counties. Petitions will be posted at numerous locations and all registered voters are asked to sign the petition in support of helping to get needed help closer for Veterans and their families. Deputy Wayne Becker from the Dent County Sheriff’s Office dropped by to inform the Commission about the annual application that will be submitted electronically for the State Cyber Crime Grant (SCCG) in the amount of $46,741.94. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be next Thursday morning at the courthouse.

An accident occurred Wednesday night at 8:30 in Dent County on county road 4110 about a half mile north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1994 Ford F150 driven by 15-year old Kimberly Givens of Salem was traveling northbound and rounded a curve. A passenger, 17-year old Shelbi Rowland of Salem, who was standing in the back of the pickup, fell out. Rowland suffered minor injuries and was transported by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Givens was the only wearing a seat restraint the time of the accident. The Ford F150 sustained no damage and was driven from the scene.

The Salem Tigers and Sullivan Eagles met for the pre-district warm-up game Thursday and the Sullivan took advantage of a couple errors and were very aggressive on the base paths as they earned a 7-5 win. Eli Floyd went 3-3 with a run scored and Gabe Chang finished with 2 RBI for Salem who falls to 11-10 on the year. They will host Union Tuesday in their final home game of the year.

Signups for the City of Salem Baseball, Softball and T-Ball leagues are now under way at the Salem City Administrative Offices at 400 North Iron Street. The program is open to boys and girls from age 4 through 14. The cost per player is $25 and the league will begin on June 6th. Jaime Garcia pitched seven sharp innings, Brandon Moss hit a long home run and the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 4-0 on Thursday. Garcia (2-2) gave up two hits, didn't walk a batter and struck out five. Stephen Piscotty drove in two runs. St. Louis won three of four in the series and will start a three game series tonight with Pittsburgh Pirates at 6:20.

The Kansas City Royals will be at Cleveland to start a three game series.

Cody Eakin scored at 2:58 of overtime and the Dallas Stars beat the St. Louis Blues 3-2 on Thursday night, bouncing back from a blowout loss two days earlier to tie the second-round series at two games apiece. Vladimir Tarasenko scored his sixth goal of the playoffs on a first-period breakaway for St. Louis. The Blues play the Stars Saturday at 12:00 noon with the pre-game show at 11:30 on KSMO.

A Funeral Mass will be held for Maria Crowe of Salem, age 89, at 8:00 this morning. Graveside services will be held Saturday at noon at the North Lawn Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County James and Gahr Mortuary.

Funeral services for Carol Perdue of Salem, age 60, will be held today at 11:00 at the Dent County James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Heidi C. Norris of Salem, age 88, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from noon until service time Friday. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Graveside services for Pauline Wines of Salem, age 95, will be held Saturday at 10:00 at the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Love Pack/Back Pack Program. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral service will be held for Donald Wayne Goddard of Rolla, age 72, Saturday at noon at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Celebration of Life service for Christopher “Chris” Scott Domeyer, age 56, will be held Saturday from 3:00 to 7:00 at the Rolla Lion’s Club Park, Pavilion 7. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Memorial services for Mrs. A. "Ann" Wethy Beers, of Springfield, age 77, will be held Monday at 2:00 at the Fox Chapel in Licking. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time. All arrangements are under the direction of the Fox Funeral Home in Licking.
