The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of April. During the month, they wrote three equipment repair orders, 14 summons to appear in court, 12 warning tickets, and 18 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 14 accidents, three assaults, one attempted suicide, two reports of disorderly conduct, one report of domestic assault, six reports of domestic violence, one report of driving while intoxicated and/or drugged, one report of driving while intoxicated, three reports of driving while having a license revoked and/or suspended, one report of harassment, and one report of leaving the scene of an accident. The department also investigated one report for an open beer and/or liquor container, two reports of property damage, one report of receiving stolen property, 20 reports of stealing, one report of tampering and one 96 hour commitment. They also investigated one report of possession of amphetamine, three reports of possession of benzodiazepine, one report of possession of heroin, one report of possession of marijuana and three reports of possession of drug paraphernalia. The Salem Police Department received one report of a suicide and conducted one death investigation. The police department received 1,053 calls for service during the month, handled 123 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 71 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 20 hours in court testifying, and four hours as court bailiff. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 8,570 miles and arrested 20 males and seven females during the month of March.

The Dent County Fire Protection District Board of Directors held their meeting Tuesday evening at the fire station. The minutes were reviewed and approved from the previous meeting. Financial reports were reviewed, bills were approved and the budget was also reviewed. During an update of the calendar, it was noted that there will be a tour of the station on May 9th for kindergarten all day, testing and training for Fire Fighter 1 and 2 classes will be conducted all month long and there will be fire inspections. The monthly reimbursement report for the month of April showed a total of 23 calls came in that included: one call for a structure fire, three calls for brush fires, two calls for car fires, one call for a landing zone, six first responder calls, four calls for vehicle accidents, two calls for mutual aid, one call for haz-mat, two calls for training and one other call. The total calls to date for the year are 119. In old business it was noted that the new truck is now out to be painted, and during reports it was mentioned that the generator on the north side is being looked at to be connected and placed in operation. The Board then set their next meeting for Tuesday, June 7th at the fire station beginning at 6:00 PM and the meeting was then adjourned.

The Salem Junior High had their SCA track meet Tuesday night at Willow Springs and the 7th grade girls 4X2 relay team beat the SCA record set by Houston back in 2000 with a time of 2:01.78.  The girls are Shelby Botkin, Alaina Ferguson, Josie Manley, and Monica Jessen. Congratulations Girls!

Keion Owen qualified for the Missouri State 3A Sectional Tournament that will be held at Whispering Oaks Golf Course in Marshfield next Monday, May 9th.  He shot a 96 at the Class 3 District 5 tournament held Tuesday, May 3 at the Sullivan Country Club. Sullivan won the District Team Title with a 333, and West Plains we second with a 350.  Salem shot a team total of 497 to finish last in the team competition.

The Salem Baseball Tigers play host to the Sullivan Eagles at home this afternoon at the SHS with the game starting at 4:30. The game will be on KSMO 1340 AM and online at ksmoradio.com as well as recorded for playback on Fidelity.

The St. Louis Blues and the Dallas Stars are back in action tonight for Game 4 in that best of seven series. The Blues lead that series, two games to 1. Game time is 7:00 with the pre-game to start on KSMO at 6:30.

Matt Holliday's RBI single with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning gave the St. Louis Cardinals a 5-4 victory over the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night. St. Louis loaded the bases with one out in the ninth inning against Phillies closer Jeanmar Gomez. Stephen Piscotty delivered an RBI infield single to tie the game. Holliday smacked a single through the left side of the infield to drive in plate the winning run.  The Cardinals play the Phillies today at 12:45. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Daniel Murphy finished a triple shy of the cycle, slumping slugger Bryce Harper also went deep and the Washington Nationals routed the floundering Kansas City Royals 13-2 on Wednesday. Kansas City has the day off.

Funeral Services for Elmer Gorman will be held at 12:00 noon today at the Dent County James and Gahr Chapel. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time.

A Funeral Mass will be held for Maria Crowe of Salem, age 89, Friday morning at 8:00 in the morning. Graveside services will be held Saturday at noon at the North Lawn Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County James and Gahr Mortuary.

Funeral services for Carol Perdue of Salem, age 60, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 tonight. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Heidi C. Norris of Salem, age 88, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held from noon until service time Friday. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Graveside services for Pauline Wines of Salem, age 95, will be held Saturday at 10:00 at the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Love Pack/Back Pack Program. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral service will be held for Donald Wayne Goddard of Rolla, age 72, Saturday at noon at the Redeemer Lutheran Church in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 10:00 Saturday morning until service time. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Redeemer Lutheran Church. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Celebration of Life service for Christopher “Chris” Scott Domeyer, age 56, will be held Saturday from 3:00 to 7:00 at the Rolla Lion’s Club Park, Pavilion 7. All arrangements are under the direction of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Memorial services for Mrs. A. "Ann" Wethy Beers, of Springfield, age 77, will be held Monday at 2:00 at the Fox Chapel in Licking. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time. All arrangements are under the direction of the Fox Funeral Home in Licking.
