On Tuesday, April 19th Dent County Sheriff’s Department deputies were dispatched to the Salem Police Department to make contact with a female victim. The victim stated there had been numerous fraudulent charges on her bank account. Information about a suspect was provided and the investigation is ongoing. The total for all charges is $1,151.78. On Sunday, April 24th, John Nolan contacted the Dent County Sheriff's Office and stated he was being followed by a red Ford Ranger. Nolan stated the truck was being driven by a man he knows. Nolan stated he is currently dating his ex-girlfriend, and the man was attempting to assault him. A short investigation began and as a result of the investigation, Ryan L. Flowers of Salem, was arrested and issued citations for careless driving and assault in the 3rd degree. Flowers was fingerprinted and released on a summons to appear in court. On Monday, April 25th, deputies made contact with Justin Myers in the 500 block of North Highway 19. Myers had numerous felony warrants for his arrest and he was taken into custody without incident. Myers is currently being held in the Dent County Jail on a Capias Warrant with no bond. On Thursday, April 28th at approximately 12:38, deputies with the Dent County Sheriff's Office attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the Dollar General Store parking lot. The driver then exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies gave chase but were unable to locate the suspect who was recognized as Tadd Mansfield of Salem. Mansfield was later seen crossing Highway 32 near AutoZone, then   was seen running west behind AutoZone. Officers from multiple agencies were able to set up a perimeter around the area of AutoZone to Wines Street. Mansfield was later seen near the Headstart building on Wines and then behind Wal-Mart near the wood line. Mansfield once again fled from deputies into the thick wooded area. The Dent County K9 Unit was deployed and began tracking Mansfield through the wooded area. The K9 Unit continued tracking Mansfield before he was located at the end of Roosevelt Street where he gave up and was taken into custody. Mansfield is currently being held in the Dent County Jail on a felony resisting arrest charge with a $5,000 cash only bond.  Anyone with any information regarding the fraudulent charges on a bank account incident is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The Dent County Commissioner’s met Monday morning at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated the Montauk and Cedar Grove areas received between 2-4 inches of rain Saturday night that made some roads nearly impassable including Dent County Road 6500. He said a mudslide occurred on county road 6670 near Tan Vat that closed that road until the mud could be removed Sunday. He said District 1 crews were out Sunday making all roads at least passable, but more work is being done on all roads in those areas to make sure that are good to go. He also said the Bunker area had around two inches of rain and some washouts also occurred in that area. He said crews will be getting to that area soon as well as checking others for downed trees and washouts. He did say that a man would be repairing the fuel tank pump on county truck #71 and then would be cutting brush on county road 5610. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said his crews were called out Saturday night to remove two downed trees on Dent County Road 4380. He reported grading would be done on county roads 2403, 2405, 6123 and 6130. He went to say materials would be added and grading done on Dent County Roads 2500, 2520 and 2540. Commissioner Larson said a new employee will be getting trained this week. He also wanted to inform the commission that bids for a used dump truck to replace the one that was totaled in an accident approved at the last commissioner meeting, will be postponed until there is a final settlement from the insurance company on the value of the truck.  Larson feels that truck is worth more than they are offering and continues to negotiate with the insurance company. The commissioners participated in a conference call with Shive-Hattery Engineering to lay the ground work for contract negotiations for a new Jail and Justice Center. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
