missourinetLOCAL NEWS:

In Friday’s edition of Your World Today, a sentence was inadvertently omitted from the Dent County Commissioners story. In the story, the sentence read, “Skiles are having some budget issues and asking for a voluntary reduction in some budgets of up to 15-20 percent.” The line should have read “Skiles went on to say that Dent County is in strong financial shape while other neighboring counties are having some budget issues and asking for a voluntary reduction in some budgets of up to 15-20 percent.” We apologize for the omission.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers, located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00. After approval of the agenda, Mayor Brad Nash will have city Clerk Mary Happel administer the Oath of Office to the re-elected West Ward Alderwoman Molly Zettel, as she was absent at the last meeting. The Board of Alderman will then conduct an organization of the Board by electing a President of the Board of Alderman. During the hearing of persons, Davis Pierce is requesting that the City of Salem collect donations (round-up) to help pay utility bills for the critically disabled citizens. In unfinished business, at the March 7, 2016 Board of Alderman meeting, Alderwoman Zettel reported that the Utility Committee recommends that instead of charging Heartland Metal $0.003/gallon to charge them $0.002/gallon for water. A public hearing was held April 18, 2016 and there was no public input. If the Board of Alderman approves this new rate, it will have to be set by Ordinance. City Administrator Ray Walden will update the Board on current and future projects and items regarding the City of Salem, followed by a report of Mayor Nash. At the last meeting, the Board approved applying for a grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund to develop an all-inclusive playground. The board will discuss Resolution #4-2016 which would authorize the mayor to sign the grant application. In new and miscellaneous business, Mayor Nash will appoint persons for standing committees, with the Board’s approval. The Library Board is requesting approval to appoint Ms. Melody Fortner to the Library Board to replace Mr. Joe Brand, who submitted his resignation. The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing contracts. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.
