Weston Kinsey of Springfield was taken into custody in Springfield, Missouri early Wednesday morning and is currently being held in Springfield for an outstanding warrant for first degree property damage. The sheriff's office says Kinsey will eventually be brought back to Reynolds County to face charges for assault, armed criminal action and felony possession of a firearm. He is being accused of shooting 51-year old Jeffery Parker of Bunker Monday morning. He will be held on a $100,000 cash only bond once he is extradited.

Veterans Affairs Day will be held this Friday, April 29th from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at the American Legion/VFW Post on Highway 32 West. Veterans in the 16th District that includes Crawford, Dent, Howell, Laclede, Maries, Phelps, Pulaski, Shannon, Texas and Wright couties are welcome to attend. Representatives attending from the Department of Veterans Affairs will include enrollment and claims processing specialists. The Missouri Veterans Commission will have service officers at the event. Also attending will be representatives from organizations that provide aid to homeless veterans and those who need help with living expenses. Representatives from Congressman Jason Smith office, and Senator Claire McCaskill and Roy Blunt's offices are also expected to be on hand. Remember, it doesn't matter what service branch you served in to get assistance. Find out what benefits are due you and your family that you may not be aware of. Captain James W. Remillard, commanding officer of Troop I, announces that troopers will be conducting special enforcement operations on Interstate 44 during the month of May and June. Troopers assigned to these operations will place special emphasis on commercial motor vehicles and criminal activity. Interstate 44 is a major traffic artery for the entire United States and runs directly through the heart of Troop I and the counties we serve stated Captain Remillard. Troop I troopers work hard every day to live up to the agency's vision statement, by excelling as a criminal justice leader in the delivery of quality services, the Missouri State Highway Patrol will ensure Missouri is a safe place to live or visit. In support of "The Drive To ZERO Highway Deaths," the Patrol encourages motorists to protect themselves and their passengers by making sure everyone in the vehicle is properly restrained in a seat belt or child restraint. An accident occurred at 12:45 early Wednesday morning in Washington County on Pelican Ridge Road about a mile north of Lick Skillet Road. According to the highway patrol report, a 1991 Ford Bronco driven by 22-year old Christopher Valley of Salem was traveling northbound and failed to negotiate a right curve. The Bronco then traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck a ditch. A passenger, 27-year old Brittanie Stivers of Cadet, suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Washington County Memorial Hospital by the Washington County EMS. No one was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Bronco sustained minor damage and was towed by Elliott’s Towing.

The Missouri Department of Conservation, in cooperation with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, will offer free fishing and other fun activities for kids ages 15 years and younger at Montauk State Park, located southwest of Salem on Saturday, April 30th, from 6:30 a.m. to 8:15 p.m. Young anglers can get their free trout tags at the registration booth from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 29th, and all day Saturday. The Spring Branch will be reserved for young anglers and will be stocked with trout all day. Volunteers will be on hand to help out. Children are encouraged to bring their own fishing equipment. Parents are welcome to help kids, but only one pole may be used between the helper and the child and adults are not allowed to fish by themselves in the special area. Kids and adults are also invited to presentations and exhibits on various topics related to trout fishing such as fly tying and casting. There will also be drawings for door prizes throughout the day. Kids must be present to win. Volunteers are also needed and do not need to be experienced anglers. Jon Arzt gave up just four hits and struck out five en route to his 3rd shutout of the year, plus had two hits including a solo homer as the Salem Tigers beat Ava, 3-0. Salem is now 11-7 on the year and finished 5-2 in the SCA. They will play this weekend in the Missouri Wood Bat Classic in Farmington, weather permitting.

Signups for the City of Salem Baseball, Softball and T-Ball leagues are now under way at the Salem City Administrative Offices at 400 North Iron Street. The program is open to boys and girls from age 4 through 14. The cost per player is $25 and the league will begin on June 6th. Adam Wainwright pitched into the sixth inning for his first win and hit a three-run triple in St. Louis' fifth straight offensive outburst, lifting the Cardinals to an 11-4 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday night. The Cardinals finish up their set with the Diamondbacks tonight at 8:40. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Mike Trout hit a tying two-run homer, Yunel Escobar put the Angels ahead with a solo shot in the sixth inning and Andrelton Simmons also went deep to power Los Angeles to a 4-2 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday night.  The Royals have tomorrow off, they start a set with the Mariners on Friday.

Funeral services for June Y. Coryell of Salem, age 92, will be held Friday, April 29th at 11:00 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Salem. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial/James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Nicholas G. Dreisewerd of Bunker, age 66, will be held Friday morning at 11:30 at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Bunker. Visitation will be held today from 4:00 to 8:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Interment will be in the Bunker Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Bunker Cemetery Fund or St. Judes Children’s Hospital.

Funeral services for Michael Dennis “Denny” Kunkel of Wright City, age 65, will be held Saturday at 12:00, with Full Military Honors, at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Jadwin Cemetery.
