Reynolds County Sheriff Tom Volner is reporting that authorities are actively searching for 28-year old Weston Kinsey after a shooting occurred Monday in Bunker. The Reynolds County Sheriff's Department was dispatched to a house near Reynolds County Road 914 around 2:00 Monday morning after receiving a report of multiple shots being fired. Upon arriving at the scene, authorities found a male suspect on the ground who had been shot multiple times. He was airlifted to St. Louis. Volner indicated that Kinsey is the main suspect in the shooting. The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning for their regular meeting. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles was not present due to a prior commitment and Clerk Angie Curley appointed District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell as the acting Presiding Commissioner for the meeting. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams reported CART monies received by the county in April were $55,686.11 which is some $2,800 more than the April 2015 figure of $52,884. The year-to-date increase for the CART funds is at $1,056.10 or less than ½ of one percent. In the road report, Purcell said that in his district materials would be added and grading done on Dent County Road 6630, plus ditch work, back sloping and grading was going to be done on county road 5450. He also said ditch work and back sloping would be done on Dent County Road 6400 while brush was going to be cut on county road 5680. Purcell went on to say that a driveway culvert was going to be installed on county road 6180. In District 2, Commissioner Gary Larson indicated grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2150, 4405, 5320 and 5325. He also said that materials would be added to county roads 3240 and 3295 while a man would be screening rock. Larson did say work continues on county truck 110. Larson reported that he spoke with representatives from the county’s vehicle insurance carrier, MOPERM. They wanted to give $58,000 for the totaled dump truck from the accident in the county on April 15th. Larson negotiated the price up to $60,000 and the search will be on to find a replacement truck. At the last meeting, the commission agreed to accept financing bids from local financial institutions for the new dump trucks. The bids will be due in and opened at 10:00 in the morning on Thursday, May 12th. The bids must be sealed and sent to the Dent County Clerk’s office. The commission has the right to accept or reject any and all bids. The next meeting will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

On Saturday, April 16th at approximately 1:00 in the morning, Dent County Sheriff’s Department Deputies conducted a traffic stop in the 10000 block of Highway 32 West. Upon making contact with the driver, deputies could detect the smell of marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The driver, Michael W. Thedford, of Annapolis, initially provided deputies his brother's pedigree information. A short investigation began and during the investigation it was discovered that Thedford had an active Parole Absconder warrant. Also during the investigation, numerous drug paraphernalia items and a baggy with suspected marijuana was located in the vehicle. Thedford was arrested and transported to the Dent County Sheriff's Office. Then on Wednesday, April 20th, deputies conducted a traffic stop for a traffic violation in the 200 block of South Highway 19. During the stop, it was discovered that the passenger, Timothy Martin had five active warrants for his arrest out of Franklin County.  Martin was arrested without incident and transported to the Dent County Jail awaiting extradition to Franklin County. Also on the 20th, deputies where flagged down by a male subject on Pershing Street near Gibbs Street. The male subject, later identified as Marvin Smith was found to be intoxicated. Smith demanded that the deputies give him a ride to an unknown residence and attempted to get into the passenger side of the patrol car after deputies gave him commands not to do so. Smith disobeyed deputies numerous times before he was taken into custody. He was then transported to the Dent County Sheriff's Office and later released with a summons to appear in court. Smith was issued a summons for failure to obey a deputy sheriff.

An accident happened in Dent County on Highway 32 about 15 miles west of Salem Sunday morning at 6:39. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Dodge Pickup driven westbound by 33-year old Wesley Kovachik of Licking, traveled off the roadway and went over the top of a guardrail before overturning into a creek. Kovachik was not wearing a seat restraint and suffered minor injuries. He refused treatment at the scene. The 2003 Dodge Pickup was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

CANCELLED:  The Salem Middle School Track meet scheduled for today has been cancelled. 

Signups for the City of Salem Baseball, Softball and T-Ball leagues are now under way at the Salem City Administrative Offices at 400 North Iron Street. The program is open to boys and girls from age 4 through 14. The cost per player is $25 and the league will begin on June 6th. Kory Ramsey struck out 11 and gave up 3 hits, then drove in the first run of the game with a single as the Salem Tigers beat Thayer, 4-0. Salem is now 10-7 on the year and 4-2 in the SCA. Salem will play Ava Wednesday in a makeup game at 4:30 in Salem.

According to Salem Golf Coach Clay Moody, the Golf District date has been moved from Monday, May 2nd to Tuesday, May 3rd starting at 9:00.

Troy Brouwer tapped in his own rebound to snap a third-period 2-2 tie as the St. Louis Blues advanced to the second round of the playoffs for the first time in four seasons, eliminating the defending Stanley Cup champion Chicago Blackhawks, 3-2 in Game 7 of their Western Conference quarterfinals series Monday night.

Jori Lehtera and Colton Parayko also scored for the Blues who will next ace the Dallas Stars.

Jean Segura had four hits, including a go-ahead three-run home run in the sixth inning, to lead the Arizona Diamondbacks to a 12-7 win over the St. Louis Cardinals on Monday night. The Cardinals play the Diamondbacks tonight at 8:40

Albert Pujols hit two homers and Mike Trout added another, powering the Los Angeles Angels to a 6-1 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Monday night. The Royals play tonight at 9:05.

Graveside services for Harrison Turner, age 52, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Williams Cemetery in Licking. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for Hunter Michael Robbers of Salem, age 18 months, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Fox Funeral Home Chapel in Licking. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time.

Funeral services for June Y. Coryell of Salem, age 92, will be held Friday, April 29th at 11:00 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 5:00 to 7:00 at the Dent County Memorial/James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Michael Dennis “Denny” Kunkel of Wright City, age 65, will be held Saturday at 12:00, with Full Military Honors, at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 9:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Jadwin Cemetery.
