missourinetThe Dent County Commission met Monday for their regular meeting at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported grading would be done on Dent County Roads 6303, 6320 and 6493, 6495 and 6497. He said a crossover pipe was being installed on county road 4110 and crews were hauling material to that road. He is also going to be attending the South Central Missouri Community Action Agency meeting today in Winona. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larsonsaid grading would be done on Dent County Road 4437 with materials being added to county roads 2340, 2380 and 2530. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported on the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting held last Thursday and there will be three projects done in Dent County: an ADA sidewalk on Highway 19 North on the west side of the street between 11th and 12th Street, Route E between Route K and Highway 119, and also on Route K between Route KK and Highway 19. He also said the MRPC Board heard from Kim Martin who is a Community Development Finance Manager for the MDFB. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported Senator Blunt will have a mobile office at the courthouse on May 18th from 2:00 to 3:00. All the commissioners and the county clerk expressed their deepest condolences to the Wethy family for the loss of Ed Friday morning. Skiles discussed with the commission that he had been reviewing the Crawford County FEMA Hazard Mitigation Plan and talked with a number of commissioners from other counties about their plans. He felt that Dent County should be able to create their own Hazard Mitigation Plan that would not include the National Flood Insurance Program and would also still protect the property rights of the citizens of Dent County. The commissioners voted 3-0 to move forward with the project. Skiles was to contact Tammy Snodgrass at the MRPC to see if the grant monies were still available this year to write the plan. Jim Stevens was at the meeting to again ask about chip and sealing Dent County Road 6160. He said he was willing to participate in the cost share program to get his road chip and sealed. He was told by the commission that they did not include in the 2016 budget money for any new chip and seal roads, only to recoat previous chip and seal roads that need repairs. The commission also told Stevens they have not offered to do any cost share chip and seal roads simply due the extensive costs to maintain the over 50 miles of road they currently have. After that conversation, the clerk opened the one bid for chip and seal from West Contracting in Sullivan. For a single coat with the county providing the road chips, the cost came to $1.45 a square yard for the oil and chips to be put down and then rolled. Using the $1.45 figure, that comes to a cost of over $15,000 per mile. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Thursday at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
