missourinetThe Dent County Sheriff’s Office, Salem Police Department, and the South Central Drug Task Force have announced the conclusion of a long term narcotics investigation conducted by members of South Central Drug Task Force, in Dent County, Missouri. The South Central Drug Task Force, in coordination with the Dent County Sheriff’s Office, Salem Police Department, Phelps County Sheriff’s Office, Rolla Police Department, and Missouri State Highway Patrol, arrested seventeen people on Wednesday, April 13th during the early morning raid. Over the course of several months, undercover operatives with South Central Drug Task Force, Rolla Police Department, Phelps County Sheriff's Office and Missouri State Highway Patrol were able to conduct a series of covert narcotics investigations involving the distribution/sales of methamphetamine, marijuana, heroin, and prescription medications. Prior to the raid, the Dent County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office issued arrest warrants for twenty-three loosely affiliated individuals involved in the investigation. Arrest teams consisted of members of the Dent County Sheriff's Office, Salem Police Department and Missouri State Highway Patrol. As of 1:00 PM on April 13th the following individuals from Salem have been taken into custody: 24-year old Nathan K. Cantanzaro, was charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance with bond set at $75,000; 44-year old Sondra A. Coleman has been charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance with a bond set at $25,000; 63-year old Stephen R. Jones was charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance and bond was set at $100,000; 38-year old Jamie L. Hatcher has been charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance with a bond set at $100,000; 32-year old Amy L. Freeman was charged with three counts of distribution of a controlled substance and bond was set at $100,000; 24-year old Calvin L. Oliver-Fountain has been charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance with bond set at $100,000; 24-year old Justin K. Nelson has been charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance and bond was set at $50,000; 26-year old Natalie D. Weikel was charged with four counts of distribution of a controlled substance with bond set at $200,000; 33-year old Jeanne M. Bourbon was charged with three counts of distribution of a controlled substance with a bond set at $75,000; 47-year old Daniel R. Hartsfield was charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance with a bond set at $200,000; 28-year old Marcus A. Kitson has been charged with four counts of distribution of a controlled substance with bond set at $200,000; 23-year old Tyler R. Steelman was charged with three counts of distribution of a controlled substance and bond was set at $75,000; 25-year old Mersadie L. Mansfield has been charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance with a bond set at $150,000; 30-year old Jeremey P. Jackson was charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance and bond was set at $200,000; 29-year old Jessica A. Warnke of Davisville was charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance with a bond set at $50,000; and 33-year old Dustin S. Pogue of Edgar Springs has been charged with one count of distribution of a controlled substance with bond set at $100,000. During the operation, officers also arrested 24-year old Michael T. Simmons of Salem for possession of felony drug paraphernalia. The success of this investigation was only possible through the cooperative efforts of all member agencies of the South Central Drug Task.  Additional indictments and arrests are anticipated throughout the Dent County area. Anyone having information concerning illegal drug activity is urged to contact the South Central Drug Task Force at (888) 779-9901. The above arrest is a mere accusation and is not evidence of guilt.  Evidence in support of this charge must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence. Funding for this project made available by the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant (JAG), which is administered by the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance and the State of Missouri Department of Public Safety.

The Salem Tigers Tennis Team defeated Willow Springs Tuesday, 8 matches to 1. They are now 6-0. The match scheduled for Monday with Rolla was postponed and rescheduled for April 15th in Rolla. The Tennis team will play at Licking today at 4:00.

The Salem Baseball Tigers will be at Houston today starting at 4:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com starting at 4:15 with Tiger Talk and Coach Phillip Karr. Salem enters the game with a 5-4 record and are 1-1 in the SCA. Salem has lost two straight games.

The Salem Golf team will be at Thayer today starting at 4:00.

Domingo Santana hit a go-ahead two-run homer in the ninth inning, Chase Anderson threw six innings without an earned run and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 6-4 on Wednesday night. The Cardinals finish up the series with the Brewers today at 12:45. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

 

Salvador Perez tagged Houston reliever Ken Giles for a tiebreaking two-run homer in the eighth inning, lifting the Kansas City Royals over the Astros 4-2 Wednesday night. Giles retired the first two batters in the eighth before walking Alex Gordon on a full count. Tonight the Royals finish up their series with the Astros at 7:10.

David Backes scored at 9:04 of overtime on a shot that deflected off a Chicago Blackhawks defenseman, and the St. Louis Blues took the series opener 1-0 over the defending Stanley Cup champions on Wednesday night. The Blues and Blackhawks will play Friday night at 7:00 in Game 2.

Funeral services for Don Franklin Mowry of Rolla, age 94, will be held today at 1:00 at the Rolla Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Barnes-Jewish Children’s Cancer Hospital.

Funeral services for Harley Glinn Lovins of Salem, age 83, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Carty Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Salem Full Gospel Church.

Memorial services for Esther E. Walker of Salem, age 79, will be held Saturday at the Meramec Hills Cemetery in Cuba at 11:00 in the morning. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County/ James and Gahr Mortuary.

Funeral services for Austin Eugene Gillam of Cuba, age 80, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. Interment will be in the Czar Cemetery in Viburnum.
