missourinetThe Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that materials would be added to and grading done on Dent County Road 6280, while grading only would be done on county roads 5510, 6240, 6245, 6370 and 6420. He added that brush cutter #8 was being serviced. District II Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading would be done on Dent County Road 2320. He went on to say that a grader and backhoe were on county road 5310 repairing the washed out part of the road due Huzzah Creek flooding. Larson said that the oversized screens for river rock at the Road and Bridge Department would be used for the repairs, which would save the county several dollars and that the only extra costs would be for fuel. He also stated that materials would be added to county road 2330. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that Sheriff Rick Stallings had contacted him about his department’s need for additional storage. Skiles discussed the issue with Ted Cunningham and the possibility of using some space in the third floor conference room. The Commissioners voted 3 – 0 to construct a 6’ X 12’ storage area in the conference room. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she balanced with the treasurer on all accounts for March and that bills were being paid. She stated that she was pleased with the 21.55% turnout for the April municipal elections, which was the highest municipal election turnout in six years. Curley noted that the turnout varied by precinct depending on what issues were on the ballot. Skiles noted that there will be no Commissioners meeting on Monday as they will be attending the Missouri Association of Counties meeting. Representatives of the VFW, American Legion, and Military Officers Association were in to discuss the Purple Heart signage. Those attending included Eric Surles, Dave Pace, John Rostrum and Dennis Charland. The Commissioners noted that they had approved the designation back in 2014 and had never received the details about acquiring the signs. Dave Pace will get the contact information to the Commissioners. Skiles noted that once the signs arrive the county will have to establish a contract with MoDOT for the locations, etc. Charland provided information about the Veteran’s Affairs Day coming up April 29th from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm at the VFW post on Highway 32 West. The event will provide veterans an opportunity to make contact with representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as other resources. Representatives from Congressman Jason Smith’s office and Senators Claire McCaskill’s and Roy Blunt’s offices will also be on hand. Since there will be no meeting on Monday the next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning, April 14th at 9:00 in the Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
