Congratulations to the Salem High School Band for receiving all Exemplary 1 Ratings at their MSHSAA State Festival on Friday. The band performed a prepared concert for a panel of 3 judges which all gave them top ratings. They also received the best rating for their sight reading performance on a piece they have never played before. The band's next performance will be May 6th at 7:00 in the evening in the Salem High School Gymnasium. The band is under the direction of Mr. David Schatz and assisted by Mr. Philip Giacomelli.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct a meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 7:00 PM. After approval of the agenda and during the hearing of persons, the Current River Cruisers are requesting permission to close the streets around the courthouse for their car show on June 18, 2016. In unfinished business, City Attorney William Camm Seay will advise the Board on his findings concerning the City’s insurance and the “Picnic License” from previous meetings. Alderwoman Molly Zettel will report on the Utility Committee meeting held prior to the Board meeting. Parks & Recreation Director Tye Lydon will give a report on the Park Board meeting that was held back on March 16th. City Administrator Ray Walden will update the Board on various items and projects concerning the City and he will address the FEMA Hazard Mitigation Plan. Mayor J.J. Tune will then make a presentation of Proclamation for National Service Recognition Day for Tuesday, April 5th, 2016.The Board will then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing litigation. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 6:56 Saturday morning at 705 Park Street in Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a southbound 2010 Pontiac G6, driven by 24-year old Anthony S. Jarvis of Salem, struck a 2014 Highway Patrol Ford Explorer that was parked and unoccupied. The accident occurred when Jarvis was attempting to retrieve an item from the passenger seat and weaved causing the Pontiac to strike the rear of the Ford. Jarvis was not wearing a safety restraint and sustained minor injuries, but refused treatment. The Pontiac sustained extensive damage, while the Ford sustained moderate damage.

An accident occurred Saturday morning at 8:10 in Crawford County on Old Highway 66 about 2/10ths of a mile from Highway 19. According to the highway patrol report, a 2009 Ford Crown Victoria driven northbound by 23-year old Elizabeth Richmond of Salem, turned left from a side street and into the path of a 2015 GMC Sierra driven eastbound by 62-year old Jackie McGinnis of Cuba. Richmond suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Missouri Baptist Hospital in Sullivan. The Ford Crown Victoria sustained extensive damage while the Sierra had moderate damages. Richmond was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident while McGinnis was. Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Chris & Sons Towing.

An accident occurred at 10:30 Thursday night in Texas County on Highway 17 about two miles north of Roby. According to the highway patrol report, a 1989 Oldsmobile Cutlass driven by 19-year old Chelsea Whetstone of Plate was traveling northbound, crossed over the centerline of the roadway and struck a 2015 Dodge Ram 5500 driven southbound by 56-year old Steven Atkinson of Salem. Whetstone suffered serious injuries and was transported by aircraft to Mercy Hospital in Springfield. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Oldsmobile Cutlass was totaled and towed by Arringtons Towing. The Dodge Ram sustained extensive damage and was towed by Jays Automotive.

Jon Arzt threw a three-hit shutout and the Salem Tigers defeated Potosi Friday afternoon in Salem, 4-0. Salem improved to 4-2 on the year with the win, their fourth in a row. Kory Ramsey had two hits and drove in two runs. Salem will be busy this week with three games starting today with their first SCA Conference game as they will be at Mountain-View Liberty to face the Eagles starting at 4:30. You can hear the game on KSMO starting at 4:10 with Tiger Talk and Coach Phillip Karr.

Francisco Liriano tied a Pirates opening day record by striking out 10 leading Pittsburgh past the St. Louis Cardinals 4-1 on Sunday. Adam Wainwright gave up three runs in six innings, walking three and striking out three in his first regular season start since tearing his Achilles last Apri. The Cards will be off today before they play the Pirates Tuesday night starting at the conclusion of Tiger Baseball on KSMO Radio.

The reigning champion Kansas City Royals picked up where they left off in November, beating Matt Harvey and the New York Mets 4-3 on Sunday night in the first opening-day rematch of a World Series. All-Star closer Wade Davis struck out David Wright and Yoenis Cespedes to preserve the win. The Royals play the Mets Tuesday at 3:15.

David Backes started the scoring in a three-goal first period, Anders Nilsson made 19 saves in relief of an apparently injured Jake Allen, and the St. Louis Blues beat Colorado 5-1 on Sunday night as the Avalanche moved to the brink of postseason elimination. The Blues play the Coyotes tonight at 7:00. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Ruth E. Garrett of Salem, age 93, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Salem Christian Church in Salem. Visitation will be held prior to the service from 9:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Backpacks for Kids Program and Project Win. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for Dorothy Ellen Tipton of Salem, age 85, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Charity of your Choice.

Funeral services for Dolores Reising, age 80, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the First Baptist Church in Salem. Visitation will be held tomorrow from 5:00 until 7:00. Interment will be at Belleville Gardens Cemetery in Crevecoeur, Missouri. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for Fay J. Haxton, age 89, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the New Hope Church in Salem. Visitation will be held prior to service from 10:00 to 1:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
