An accident occurred Tuesday morning at 5:30 in Dent County on Highway 72 two miles northwest of Salem near Dent County Road 2250. According to the highway patrol report, an eastbound 1998 Dodge Dakota, driven by 18- year old Logan T. Hendrickson of Salem, crossed the center line and collided with a Kia Soul, driven by 28-year old Delmar L. Hector of Salem. Two passengers in the Dodge, 17-year old Ernest Padron and 18-year old Jeffrey Dallas of Salem, sustained serious injuries and were flown to St. Louis University Hospital by Air Evac. Hendrickson sustained minor injuries and was taken to Salem Memorial District Hospital by ambulance. Hector sustained minor injuries and was taken to Salem Memorial District Hospital by private vehicle. According to the report, Hector was wearing a seat restraint, while Hendrickson was not. The report stated that it is unknown whether Padron or Dallas were wearing their seat restraints. Both vehicles were totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker's Towing.

On Saturday, March 19th, Dent County Deputies responded to the 3000 block of Dent County Road 5610 in reference to a burglary. At that time, contact was made with the victim, who stated that her purse and a laptop computer were stolen from inside her residence while she was sleeping the previous night. After an investigation was conducted, 33-year old Andrew Medlock of Bunker was arrested and charged with Burglary in the 1st Degree and Felony Stealing. On Monday, March 21st, deputies conducted a traffic stop on Highway 19 North near Center Street.  During the stop it was discovered that the driver, 29-year old James Wisdom of Salem, had an active warrant for his arrest.  He was arrested and transported to the Dent County Jail. Wisdom later posted bond and was issued a citation for failing to register a motor vehicle. That same day, deputies made contact with 30-year old Kristopher Schafer of Salem at a residence in the 6000 block of Route K. Schafer had a capias (no bond) warrant and was arrested on that warrant. He was transported to the Dent County Jail and was incarcerated.

The Salem Police Department has released a number of reports. On Friday night, March 18th at approximately 8:32, an officer was detailed to Casey's General Store in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed the driver of a white S.U.V. pumped fuel valued at $10.23 and then left without paying. The report is under investigation. On Saturday, March 19th at approximately 9:34 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of East Center in reference to a domestic disturbance. That investigation revealed that a 59-year old male of Salem had assaulted a 56-year old female of Salem causing injuries. The suspect was taken into custody for the assault and was incarcerated pending the application of warrants. On Monday evening, March 21st at approximately 6:17, an officer was sent to the Al Brown Fields in reference to damage to a sign. The investigation of the report revealed a person or persons unknown damaged a "No Parking" sign valued at $50.00. The report is still under investigation. Also Monday night at approximately 9:11, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1400 block of South Washington in reference to a burglary. That investigation revealed a 19-year old male of Salem was observed on security video entering a residence and taking items valued at $56.00. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Tuesday morning at approximately 11:42, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 17- year old male and a 24-year old male both of Salem for stealing merchandise valued at $33.92. The suspects were issued summonses to appear in court and were released. On Wednesday March 23rd at about 1:01 in the afternoon, an officer was sent to the Bonebrake Center in reference to a burglary. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered the building and tool shed taking items valued at $3,365.00. The report is still under investigation. An accident occurred at 5:11 PM on Friday, March 25th on Highway 32 at Washington Street in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 2015 Kia Sorento driven by Joann Daugherty of Salem was southbound, stopped at the stop sign on South Washington at highway 32. The Kia started in traffic to make a right turn onto Highway 32 and made contact with a 2003 Jeep Wrangler Sport driven by Bryan Wisdom of Salem that was westbound on Highway 32 in the inner lane. Daugherty sustained probable injury, but refused medical treatment. Both vehicles sustained moderate damages.

Kory Ramsey threw a three-hit complete game and the Salem Tigers exploded for six runs in the 3rd inning en route to an 11-2 win over the Licking Wildcats. Ramsey gave up a two run homer to Austin Satterfield in the 1st inning and allowed only one hit after that. Jon Arzt went 4-4 in the game with two doubles and two singles and drove in four runs while Dalton Cook and Cameron Howard each had two RBI in the game. Salem had 12 hits in the game and improved to 3-2 on the year and they will play Potosi this Thursday at 4:30 at the SHS Field.

The Salem Tigers Tennis team swept past Richland Monday with a 9-0 win. On Tuesday, the Salem Tennis Team defeated Houston also by a 9-0 sweep. The Tennis Team will be at Willow Springs Thursday at 4:00.

Brian Elliott made 20 saves and Vladimir Tarasenko scored his 36th goal to lift the St. Louis Blues over the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 on Tuesday night for their fifth straight victory. David Backes and Troy Brouwer also scored for the Blues who will play the Boston Bruins Friday at 7 p.m.

The St. Louis Cardinals game with Washington Tuesday was rained out. The Cardinals will play the Miami Marlins today.

Mike Moustakas homered, doubled and drove in five runs to help the Kansas City Royals outslug the San Francisco Giants 16-10 Tuesday night. Moustakas hit a three-run homer during an eight-run third inning in which 11 Royals batted. The Royals play the Rangers today at 2:05.

Funeral services for Mary Ellen Taber of St. James, age 81, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the St. James Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday night. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Hospital.

Funeral services for Erma Jean “Jeanie” Pryor of Boss, age 64, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Boss Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be held at the church from 10:00 in the morning until service time Friday. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary of Salem.

Celebration of Life service for Ray Thompson of Salem, age 83, will be held Saturday, April 2nd at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to the PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) Foundation.

Funeral services for Lt. Col. (Ret.) William “Bill” T. Archer of Sligo, age 83, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelvillle. Visitation will be held from 11:00 until service time Saturday. Interment will be in the Sligo Cemetery will Full Military Honors. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project.
