According to a report from the Dent County Sheriff’s Department, this past Saturday, March 26th at 6:28 AM, a search warrant was executed at 701 South Washington in Salem at the residence of Dewanda Gamblin, Danielle Griffes and Billy Morse. The search revealed numerous items of drug paraphernalia located in both Dewanda and Danielle Griffes bedroom. Items discovered included a black zippered case with three digital scales and glass smoking device plus two packages of marijuana weighing approximately 22 grams. The scale and glass smoking device field tested positive for methamphetamine. The black zippered case was located in clothes basket near the dresser of Dewanda Gamblin. Bags of new syringes were located in both Danielle and Dewanda’s bedroom. Used syringes were located in both bedrooms. As a result of the search and investigation, 45-year old Dewanda Gamblin, 31-year old Danielle Griffes and 24-year old Billy Morse were all charged with two counts of being an accessory to the distribution and/or the possession with intent to distribute, each a Class B Felony. Dewanda Gamblin’s bond has been set $100,000.00 cash only, Danielle Griffes’s bond has been set at $75,000.00 cash only, and Billy Morse’s bond has been set at $150,000.00 cash only. In this case, the information provided is just an accusation, and is not evidence of guilt. Evidence in support of any charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty it will be to determine guilt or innocence.

The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Monday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that materials would be added to and grading done on Dent County Road 6580, while brush would be cut on county road 2480. He added that grading would be done on county roads 4081 and 5690. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that his crew would be concentrating on Dent County Road 4280 where shot rock would be added to the low water crossing, materials would be added, and patch grading would be done. He went on to say that some problems on Dent County Road 3283 were also being taken care of. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that Thursday afternoon the three commissioners were provided a tour of Echo Bluff State Park. He said it is going to be a beautiful facility with tremendous amenities and potentially will generate lots of traffic through Salem and Dent County. Skiles added that the projected opening of the park is set for July 1st and that there will be a job fair for jobs at the park, as well as other state parks. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that the voting equipment would be tested Friday, April 1st at 9:00 and the test is open to the public. She went on to say that the deadline to mail out an absentee ballot is Wednesday, March 30th. Curley added that her office would be open from 8:00 to 12:00 on Saturday, April 2nd and until 5:00 on Monday, April 4th for absentee voting. She noted that filing for county and state offices ends TODAY at 5:00. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 in the Courthouse and it is open to the public.

An accident happened Sunday afternoon at about 5:11 on Route H about two miles east of Lenox. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado driven eastbound by 35-year old Angelique Mackey of Panama City, Florida, went off the right side of the roadway after the front seat passenger reached over and grabbed the wheel. After going off the road, the Silverado struck a culvert, went airborne and struck an embankment. Suffering moderate injuries was Angelique Mackey and she was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Suffering minor injuries were passengers 40-year old Ross Mackey of Salem and 10-year old Walter Watson of Panama City, Florida. They were also taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. All involved were wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident. The Silverado had moderate damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem. The highway patrol was assisted at the scene by the Dent County Sheriff’s Department, Lenox Fire Department and the Salem EMS.

Mercy College of Nursing & Health Sciences of Southwest Baptist University is seeking comments from the public about the College in preparation for the expansion of the Bridge-RN program at the Salem campus prior to the site visit by the Missouri State Board of Nursing. The College will host a visit May 4th, 2016, with a team from the Missouri State Board of Nursing. The public is invited to submit written, signed comments regarding the college by April 22nd. The Salem Tigers Baseball team will be at Licking to face the Wildcats starting at 4:30. Salem enters the game with a 2-2 record. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio and online at ksmoradio.com starting with Tiger Talk and Coach Phillip Karr at about 4:10.

The Salem Golf Team will host the Salem Open today starting at 4:00. The Salem Tennis Team will host Houston today starting at 4:00 at the Salem City Park. The Salem Track Teams will be at Cuba for a meet today starting at 3:30.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Colorado Avalanche starting at 7:30 tonight. The pre-game show will begin at 7:00 or immediately after the Salem Baseball game. The Blues have won four straight games and have clinched a playoff position.

The Missouri Basketball Coaches Association has released their Academic All-State Team. Making the boys teams from the area was Kobe Wands from Rolla in Class 4 while making the Class 1 Girls team was Jacey Skaggs of Bunker and making the Class 3 Girls Team was Devin Fuhring from St. James. Congratulations to these players on their fine accomplishment!

Matt Holliday hit his first home run this spring, and Cardinals starter Carlos Martinez gave up one run and three hits in six innings as the Red Birds beat the New York Mets, 3-1. The Cardinals play Washington today.

Seattle Mariners rallied for a 6-4 win over a Kansas City Royals split-squad on Monday. Edinson Volquez tuned up for his start on opening day and a Kansas City Royals split squad beat the San Diego Padres 11-3 Monday. The Royals play the Giants at 8:05 tonight.

Funeral services for Mary Ellen Taber of St. James, age 81, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the St. James Chapel of the James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Thursday night. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude’s Hospital.

Celebration of Life service for Ray Thompson of Salem, age 83, will be held Saturday, April 2nd at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to the PKD (Polycystic Kidney Disease) Foundation.
