The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams was in with the CART receipts that totaled $52,091.79 for March 2016. This amount is down from March 2015 by $1,765.41 which is about 1.1007%. She also stated she that received an email stating that the Secure Rural Schools (SRS) money of $227,217.43 will be sent to Dent County, but has not yet been received. Williams also informed the Commission that back in January the Board approved the transfer of $15,000 from Inmate Security to the LEST (Law Enforcement Sales Tax) and there is not enough money yet in the account to make the full transfer. The commission approved for her to transfer $7,500 at this time and rest later in the year. In road reports, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading only would be done on Dent County Roads 5610 and 5680, while grading would be done and materials would be hauled to county roads 6400, 6430 and 6633. He stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 2470. Purcell went on to say that he attended a tourism meeting Monday night where they had five proposals to be evaluated of which four were approved and they needed more information for the other proposal. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Road 5260. He went on to say that patching grading and materials would be hauled to county roads 2020 and 2030, a backhoe would be out there to clean out pipes and a culvert was also being installed on county road 2030. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the Meramac Regional Emergency Planning Commission meeting on Wednesday and that there are training grant dollars available for a full scale exercise as well as a table top exercise. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley wanted to remind voters that if you have had a name or address change to either stop by her office at the Dent County Courthouse or call her office at 729-4144 to update your records before the next election. She said that absentee voting continues through April 4th for the Municipal Election that will be held on April 5th. Wednesday, March 30th is the last day for absentee ballots to be mailed out. Curley also wanted to remind voters that some districts will have no elections and if you are not sure, please call her office at 729-4144. At the last meeting, JC Kuessuner with State Parks came in to visit with the Commission about a job fair at the Current River State Park next month. Sara Massengale with the Extension Center came in to ask for a Proclamation from the Commission for the members who do volunteer service through AmeriCorp. On April 5th, it is Mayor and County Recognition Day for National Service and the Commission agreed to do a Proclamation at 11:00 AM. Tom Van Hatten with the 100 Acre Wood Rally stopped by to report that they had a good turnout and a record high number of cars that entered the race. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Area Arts Council is hosting “Art Across the Ages” now through April 22nd at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center, located at 202 South Main Street in Salem. The Salem Baseball Tigers lost on Wednesday to Licking by the score of 9-8. Salem Tigers are 0-2 on the year. Tigers will play Cuba today at 4:00 in Houston.

Salem Tiger Golf @ Mountain View was cancelled Thursday due to the weather.

The Salem Track Open on Thursday was also cancelled due to the weather.

Max Scherzer outpitched Adam Wainwright in a matchup worthy of opening day, and the Washington Nationals defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 8-2 Thursday. The St. Louis Cardinals will be in action this weekend as they take on Washington Saturday and Miami on Sunday. Both games can be heard on KSMO Radio beginning with the pre-game show at 11:45 AM.

Chris Carter and Martin Moldonado each hit three-run homers, Wily Peralta threw six strong innings and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Kansas City Royals 9-2 on Thursday. Reymond Fuentes added his third homer of the spring in the ninth inning for Kansas City. Starter Dillion Gee sailed through the first three innings before allowing the three-run homer to Moldonado in the fourth. The Royals play the Giants today at 3:05.

The St. Louis Blues are back in action tonight as they host the Vancouver Canucks at 6:30 and Saturday night the Blues will be in Washington taking on the Capitals at 5:30. Both games can be heard on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for Alice May Hagan of Salem, age 78, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Corinth Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Cynthia Marie Stluka of Salem, age 55, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Grace Community Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Stluka Family Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Stluka family for college funds for the grandchildren. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Celebration of Life service for David Lee Clark of Salem, age 66, will be held Monday at 12:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Vineyard Church in Rolla.

Celebration of Life service for Ray Thompson of Salem, age 83, will be held Saturday, April 2nd at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to the PDK (Polycystic Kidney Disease) Foundation.
