The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their meeting Tuesday evening in the hospital library. After approval of the minutes from the February meeting, Chief Financial Officer Monica Gargus gave the summary of operations and statistics reports for February that showed inpatient admissions were above budget for the month as were outpatient registrations. The hospital had a loss from operations in February of $13,089. During the month, the cash flow statement showed an increase in cash of $101,589. Days in Accounts Receivables were 54 same as in January. Chief Nursing Officer Mary Lou Brooks reported during the month there were 73 acute care admissions as well as 701 emergency room visits with an average turnaround time of 124 minutes. Also during the month, there were 172 ambulance runs with 133 patients transported to the hospital, 26 surgery cases, 1,859 outpatient registrations, 181 home health visits, 8,924 lab tests, 939 radiological procedures, 164 CT scans, 26 MRI scans, 12 nuclear med scans, 517 rehab treatments, 158 dialysis treatments and 303 clinical visits of which 105 were for podiatry. Brooks also reported there have been 29 confirmed influenza cases to date. Hospital Administrator Kasey Lucas reported that the Hospital Auxiliary held a meeting on March 1st with eight members attending and the next meeting will be held Tuesday, April 5th at noon at the Salem Community Center. Lucas stated that a total of 421 participated during the General Health Screening that was held February 10th and 11th. Mary Lou Brooks reported that a total of 800 surveys were turned in. The SMDH Foundation Program will be holding a Foundation Golf Tournament on Monday, May 9th at the Spring Creek Golf Club in Salem. There is room for 16 teams of 4 persons for $300 a team or $75 a person. Lunch and dinner will be provided. The Board then approved the budgeted purchase of a BI-PAP/CPAP-Ventilator from Zoll for $11, 995 as a replacement, six replacement chairs for Dialysis from Interior Landscapes for $11,378 and three bedside monitors as replacements from Nihon Kohden for $22,435. After much discussion, the Board then tabled a non-budget purchase for EMS Radio Extenders until the next meeting as more information could be obtained about the situation. The Board approved a sale of assets of lab equipment that included; a coagulation analyzer, a chemistry analyzer and immunochemistry analyzer. The Board then voted to go into closed session. 

The 2016 Business Expo will be held on Saturday, April 23rd at 9:00 AM until noon at Salem Community Center @ the Armory, located at 1200 West Rolla Road. The Business Expo is an excellent opportunity for businesses to advertise their products and services.

The expo is organized by the chamber and sponsored by Salem Publishing Company and KSMO Radio.  The deadline for businesses to have a booth space is Friday, April 15th. Businesses may bring their entry form to the chamber membership luncheon meeting on April 12th to be included in the drawing for the first three spots. The annual Expo is free to the public. Chamber members receive one booth space (10 foot by 6 foot) at no charge. Additional booth spaces are $40 each. The booth space fee for non-chamber members is $140. There will be food concessions provided by Healthy Dent County during the event. Businesses that plan on giving prizes valued at $250 or more are asked to contact the chamber office in order to take full advantage of Expo advertising. Congressman Jason Smith will be visiting Bunker High School today to speak with the Government Class about being a member of Congress, the role of the Federal Government, and current issues facing Missouri and the United States. Later Thursday afternoon Congressman Smith will be holding a community meet and greet with the Houston Lions Club, local chamber members and community leaders have also been invited.

Salem Track Team will host the Salem Open today at 4:00, weather permitting.

Salem Boys Baseball Tigers will take on Houston tonight at 6:30 in Houston.

The St. Louis Cardinals are teaming up with McDonald’s to present Ticketfest, a special $9 ticket promotion for fans to experience the best rivalry in sports.  Beginning today, fans can purchase tickets to any Cardinals-Cubs game at Busch Stadium in April or May for only $9 each. The $9 tickets go on sale today at 10:00 AM and will be available while supplies last.  About 12,000 total tickets will be available for the April 18-20 & May 23-25 series in various seating categories. Giancarlo Stanton's first home run of the spring wasn't enough to help Miami overcome a dazzling pitching performance by Carlos Martinez for the St. Louis Cardinals in a 4-1 win Wednesday. Carlos Martinez threw five shutout innings, giving up two hits and striking out five.  Brandon Moss doubled home two runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Cardinals had been 0-6-2 in their last eight games. Today The  Cardinals will play the Nationals at 12:05.

Tyler Naquin homered twice and Francisco Lindor and Jason Kipnis also homered, powering the Cleveland Indians to a 7-6 win over the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday. Mike Moustakas homered and Reymond Fuentes singled with the bases loaded off Danny Salazar for the Royals in a six-run third inning. Salvador Perez had two hits. Today Kansas City plays the Brewers at 3:05.

Funeral services for Lois M. Carter of Salem, age 68, will be held today at 2:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary/ Dent County Chapel. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Little Prairie Bible Camp.

Funeral services for Alice May Hagan of Salem, age 78, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the New Hope Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Corinth Baptist Church.

Funeral services for Cynthia Marie Stluka of Salem, age 55, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Grace Community Church. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Stluka Family Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Stluka family for college funds for the grandchildren. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

Celebration of Life service for David Lee Clark of Salem, age 66, will be held Monday at 12:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to the Vineyard Church in Rolla.

Celebration of Life service for Ray Thompson of Salem, age 83, will be held Saturday, April 2nd at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be at a later date. Memorials may be given to the PDK (Polycystic Kidney Disease) Foundation.
