The Dent County Commissioners met for the regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report District I Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that materials would be added to and grading done on Dent County Road 5600 as work continues on the Title II Project with the US Forest Service. He went on to say that grading would be done on county roads 5220 and 2440, while brush would be cut on county road 2400. Purcell said that Tuesday he attended the Roads and Trails National Park Service Scoping Meeting in Van Buren. The Park Service claims that they are one third of the way through the planning process and expect the final draft to be out in 2018. Purcell noted that it is still in question whether the Park Service plans to close any roads or trails. Commissioner Skiles asked if the Park Service intent is to actually listen to input from local citizens or are the final decisions a foregone conclusion. Purcell said that he was allowed a four minute presentation during which he noted that there are enough rules and regulations on the books and that the Park Service just needs to enforce the existing ones. He added that there will eventually be a Roads and Trails Scoping meeting in Dent County and for information citizens can go to website www.parkplanning.nps/ozar to review the scoping report. District II Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 3020 and 4290, while brush would be cut on county roads 2155, 2135, and 3120. He went on to say that truck #118 was being serviced and would be hauling materials to county road 4290. Larson added that truck #110 was at the diesel shop and that one truck broke Wednesday so now his crew is down a truck. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that Thursday of last week he attended the Transportation Advisory Committee, External Relations Committee and MRPC Advisory Committee meetings in St. James. He said that the highlight of the TAC Committee meeting was that a record number of miles were driven last year resulting in increased revenue so the 325 Plan has been rescinded and some bridges will be replaced that were not originally scheduled. Skiles also reported that on Wednesday he attended the County Commissioners Board Meeting in Jefferson City for a legislative update. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she and the Treasurer balanced on all accounts for February and that bills were being approved. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
